Wednesday Whoosh and a NSV

Finally some downward momentum is happening on the scale!  Weighed in this morning at 206.6!  (Down 2.8 from last week).  Of course, I realize that it will stall again for a few weeks but for now I will happily take whatever scale victory it gives me!  My weekly pattern still seems to be whoosh, stall, stall, whoosh.  And as incredibly frustrating as the stall weeks are, at least I know (or I hope) a whoosh is on the way!

I have actually upped the ante on the exercise front.  I've started Jillian's 30 Day Shred in addition to what I was already doing.  I'm so glad that endomondo now allows you to add other static (non-gps) related activity.  I still have to log my food in My Fitness Pal though but as far as exercise goes, I just add it all in Endomondo and it syncs up with MFP.  Easy peasy!

I've also actually upped my calorie intake to around 1460 per day.  I'm curious to see how this will affect the scale.  I'll keep ya posted there!

Ok NSV time.  So after my Saturday morning workout, Chris wanted to head by Best Buy to check out some vaccuum cleaners and since I would be doing a little cleaning later that morning, I decided to go with him.  (That is why I look kinda gross and unshowered).  And because of all the water that I've been drinking, I had to go pee.  So I ran into the bathroom there, walked in and had to do a double take.  I almost didn't recognize myself!  We really don't have any full length mirrors at the house and I was shocked at the difference I was seeing!   I went back out and asked Chris if I really looked like this?!  He said, yes, of course.  So I went back in the bathroom and snapped a pic.

And for comparison's sake.  Here is a pic of me at my all time highest at 244:
It may not seem like a lot yet, but the difference is tremendous for me.  After that, I was on a huge "high".  Then I started getting brave when we went into Target.  It occurred to me that I was still wearing all the same clothes that I always have worn and even though I haven't really started to move down size-wise just yet, I wanted to see if I could experiment a little.  And since I was going to the Matchboox Twenty concert that night anyway, I figured why not a new outfit).  So my first stop is the womens section (Chris was still comparison shopping for the vaccuum).  Everything looked like it was a tent.  I went a little further over into the "normal" section and on a whim decided to try an XL on.  It freaking fit!  And buttoned up!

Ok so that was me still in my sports bra.  When I got home and tried it on after I showered in my 'normal' bra, it didn't quite button so well.  But I did end up buying the shirt and I wore it that night, just not buttoned!
Devyn's "Large" new shirt.  Mine now!  MUWAHAHAHA!
So then I decided, Devyn always has a ton of stuff that she never wears (you know, stuff that mom always buys the kids and they never even take the tags off...)  So I went 'shopping' in Devyn's closet.  If it had a tag on it or if I have never seen her wear it, I took it back.  Eventually I will be able to fit into it!  The retro MTV pink shirt was actually a large.  A little tight but hopefully not for long!

Do you guys have any NSV's you'd like to share that has happened lately?

Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred

I decided to try to help give myself a push to get to under 200 by my goal date of 4/24.  I have been wanting to give Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred a try once more.  (The first time I tried it, I was roughly 25 pounds or so heavier).  My original plan was to do it after I got below 200 but I figured why not give it a try now.

I actually found that this time around it was much easier.  At least while I was doing the program!  I tell you though, those were the longest 27 minutes of my life!  I kept praying that the jumping jack portion would end because OUCH!  My poor girls!  I think when I try the next day today after work, I will try to use 2 sports bras in hopes that that will help ease the suffering.

I did take measurements and also some before pics so at the very least I'm hoping to see some changes even if the scale doesn't say so.

This was after.  Chris almost took a pic of me laid out on the floor after the ab portion.  I threatened to post a video of how loud he snores...  Needless to say I won that round!
So I survived Day 1.  And then the pain started to creep in around 3pm.  And then more soreness.  Today I am still quite sore but after work I do plan on attempting Day 2.  Even if I can't quite do all the reps, an attempt shall be made!

I'm gonna eat you, little fishy

I love Red Dwarf and every time I eat fish, I sing this little song from "Cat"!

My blogger friend, Rediscovering Michelle , posted the other day about not liking much fish, so I wanted to share my favorite "go to" fish recipe!  We do like a lot of fish down here in Louisiana but unfortunately the majority of places fry it as we have from time to time.  Our diet mainly consists of fried catfish when we go to a seafood restaurant.  And at least shrimp or crawfish exist down here so we do have some healthier options to choose from as well.  But those are too much trouble when trying to make at home.  So, we usually end up making our favorite type of tilapia.

Thank goodness it tastes better than it looks!
Baked Parmesan Tilapia
6 tilapia filets
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 clove garlic (minced)
1 tsp minced fresh basil or 1/4 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp Tony Chachere's (or other spice of your liking)
2 tbsp panko bread crumbs (we use more than this too... just coat the fish with it)

Mix all except fish and breadcrumbs. Spread mixture over fish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Bake at 375º for 10 - 15 minutes (depending on the thickness of the fish) and the broil on high 3 - 4 inches from heat for 2 minutes or until breadcrumbs turn a nice brown color.

In other news, I'm GOING TO SEE MATCHBOX TWENTY ON SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!  So excited but I'm so worried that the weather is going to be bad Saturday night!  We are expecting heavy rain/thunderstorms and the concert is supposed to be held outdoors at a local casino here.  I'm hoping that they have made arrangements and can move it indoors (they do have a theatre there as well).  Also Chris and I are toying with the idea of going to see Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five and Guster in Dallas in June.  BNL and BFF are our absolute favorite bands ever and we have never seen either!  So we are really hoping that that will pan out and we can go.

In fitness related, Desiree' news, I am down 1.6 pounds this week!  Not as much as I was hoping but at least I'm firmly in the next decade.  9.4 away from 200 and my motivation is HIGH to knock these last 10 or so pounds out and be in ONEderland finally!  Bring it on!

Oh, and this goes out to Seymour.  It's not you, trust me.  It's me.  This is not a break up note and I will continue to see you from time to time.  But my mom has very generously offered to give me her elliptical machine.  I'm not abandoning you or the gym!  I will continue to go and spend time with you too but maybe this will help me in the mornings when I need motivation to do a little extra.  And hopefully I can knock a few calories out while watching tv too.

Oh!  I also got a much, much needed haircut this week.

I guess that's all my updates for now.  Still trucking along with counting my calories and exercising.  But I think I really need to start incorporating some situps, pushups, squats and other stuff like that in my routine.  I'll start coming up with a plan for that soon.  So for now I will leave you with the pic I just took of my mid-morning snack.  I had a little bit of help with my grapes this morning:

Ten and Daenerys both like grapes too!

Bridge to 10K running or just winging it?

Morning all!

So since I finished the Couch to 5K program in January, my running has been rather inconsistant.  I've been running but I either stop at 2 miles, or I push myself to a 5K run or just simply do a 20 minute one here and there.  I'm not structured anymore like I was when doing the program.  I just kinda go with the flow sort of thing and I apparently don't have the dicipline to force myself to set running schedule.  Since finishing the program in January, I *may* have actually done a 5K full run 3 times.

I know one thing is for sure, I really need to find a new and different environment.  I can go run around the LSU lakes and that is definitely an option for me.  I just need to actually go and do it and that will help with the boredom and give me some new scenery.  As evidenced by my last post about the Lakes.

So my thinking is this... I can either download the Bridge to 10K app and proceed with that or, I can try to get to where I run a 5K three times per week and then gradually increase time/distance each week beyond that.  Either way, I really think I need to be more consistant.

Runners out there, how did you continue on after you got to your 5K runs?  Did you follow a plan or did you just wing it?  Should I try to work on improving my very slow pace before building distance?

How true!

Saturday morning

I have one of those rare days to myself this morning again!  It's been glorious so far but I haven't even begun to do what I had wanted to!  I wanted to treat myself to a movie and also a haircut.  Maybe there will still be time before hubby gets home from work.  If not, he can just tag along with me!

So I woke up around 7 or so (which is actually late for me) and the weather is still so gorgeous outside, I figured I'd at least get a mile walk in and then go to the gym for the elliptical.  I haven't visited Seymour, the elliptical machine, but once this week and I was feeling guilty.  The weather has been so absolutely stunning though.  I had to take advantage.  As they say about Louisiana weather, give it 5 minutes and it will change.

Not a cloud in the sky outside either and 67º
So got that out of the way and headed to the gym.  My friends Ed and Trisha where there watching their son in the gym play basketball so we chatted for a bit.  Then finally at last, I had a date with my Seymour.  We watched the "New Earth" Doctor Who episode together.  Then once I finished, I thought about doing weights but then decided that I was getting pretty hungry and I had a new protein shake that I wanted to try.

Last weekend Chris and I had went to 3 different stores trying to find Peppermint extract and finally located it.  I've been wanting to give the Peppermint Pattie protein shake a try.

It was so yummy!  It tasted just like an Andes mint!  Is it just me or do you remember those?

Here's the recipe if you want to check it out:

Peppermint Pattie Protein Shake

3/4 cup vanilla almond milk
1 serving chocolate protein powder
1 tbsp. instant chocolate pudding mix
1/4 tsp. peppermint extract
10 ice cubes

Blend and enjoy!

So I guess that's it for now, I do want to try to clean the kitchen before heading out for some me time.  Hope you all are enjoying your weekend so far!

Giving this a shot....

3.14 on 3/14

I've been planning in my head to try to do this for a while now so I was excited to get out there yesterday morning and go for a run.  My running has been, um, inconsistent lately but I knew that I had to try.  I managed to get 2 miles of it in but then did a run walk mix to finish the last mile out.

Pi Day - had a hard time trying to screen shot that while running

And this was the completed run/walk/jog.  For a total of 3.25
So I did it!  It felt so great afterwards and that reminded me why I really do love to run.  I love how it feels after the fact.  But around mile 2 my hip actually started hurting.  This is the first time since I started running in November, that something actually started to cause pain.  So that was part of the reason I walked/ran that last mile.  My hip still hurts a little today but I will go to the gym and see how I do on the elliptical.  My plan is to run again tomorrow but I will play it by ear.  Either way, I cannot skip cardio and since Sunday is going to be rest day, I have to do something today and tomorrow at least.

Oh I did take a couple pictures on my normal run.  Just to show you how dreadfully boring it has gotten.  I really need to find some different places to go but I talk myself out of it by saying that "I could be out there doing it now and almost finished".  So I usually end up going on my street and doing it anyway.

The civilization end.  Uniformity at its finest!

Only 2 houses on the left and then a big field in between.  B-O-R-I-N-G!

Oh! I forgot to mention...

I finished Series 1 of Who on the elliptical last week!  Guess WHO is next?!?!

I love me some 10!  It really makes me look forward to going to the gym just being able to rewatch the show as my "treat".   I've been getting about 3 episodes in per week.

I finished Series 1 on Thursday and there is one good thing about excessive sweating.  It hides the tears that are streaming down your face after the Doctor says, "Rose, you were fantastic.  And so was I" *sniff sniff*

Since this Thursday is Pi day...

I'm thinking of using that as a nerdy challenge to myself to either run 3.14 or do the elliptical for that amount.  I think it will be a fun thing to do!

But I will try my best to actually stay away from real Pie that day ;)

So hoping I have a good game plan in place for this week.  I actually exercised 5 days in a row last week so that was a pretty good streak.  Tuesday through Thursday I had a date with Seymour.  And Saturday I did a run/walk mix.  Yesterday was my normally scheduled jammie/rest day.  So yesterday was full of cleaning, laundry, playing the new Tomb Raider, then watching The Walking Dead.

So my plan of attack for this coming week is this:
  • Today I'm hoping to squeeze in a 30 minute walk before bowling (weather permitting if the rain stops, if not then I will go do my weights at the gym).  Other than the bowling, I usually never get any workouts in.  I really need to try to do a little something each Monday.
  • I really, really want to try to start getting up and doing a little something before work.  Even if it is just running one mile.  I know that is really adventageous of me especially since the time change just happened.  But even an extra 20 mintues per day may be the boost I need to get below 200 by April 24th.  Who knows!  We shall see!
  • Make sure I do weight training at least 3 times this week.  And I've actually upped my reps to doing 3x of what the little paper printout at the YMCA is telling me.  I've been finding that just doing one set of 20 was getting too easy.
  • Keep plugging along and entering my food and exercise in MFP.  My streak is almost to 110 days so I just need to keep on, keeping on there.
Hoping these goals will pan out.  The only temptation this week will be on Thursday.  We are doing a pot luck luncheon for a guy who is retiring in our section.  Other than that, everything is mapped out food-wise.

Are you guys ready for the week ahead?

Running rut

So you know I have my favorite elliptical machine, Seymour, and I love the feeling I get after running.  I just have not been feeling inspired to run lately.  And it's not just since I was sick.  It was before that too.  I have to literally drag myself out the house to go get a run in, whereas when I go the the gym, I don't even give it a second thought anymore.  It's like I'm on auto-pilot and I just go.  If given a choice between running and going to the gym to my elliptical, I will choose Seymour every time.

I know that I do like to run, especially how I feel afterwards.  What is going on here?  Not sure why this is happening now.  I like mixing up my cardio and I know that it will definitely benefit me in the long run (ha!) but where has my motivation gone for running!?

Has anyone ever felt like this also?  What did you do to break through this?

Sunday, March 3, 2013

So this weekend definitely did not turn out like I had expected.  I started feeling sick on Friday with a scratchy throat, headache and stuffy nose.  From there it escalated to a full blown sinus infection and now my ear is hurting too so I'm wondering if I have an ear infection also.  If I don't get better by tomorrow, I'm definitely calling the doc.  Needless to say I  missed my run yesterday.  At this point, I just don't feel like exercise just yet.  I'd like to try and go for a walk later on if it warms up a bit outside and of course, depending on how I feel.

Being sick is a perilous time for me.  Before when doing the weight loss and dieting thing, it was a very slippery slope that eventually lead to me drinking a Sprite here and there, and then that just snowballs into other sodas and poor choices with food.  All I want right now is comfort food.  Must be strong!  I'm trying to be extra diligent right now with watching my calories since I haven't exercised since Thursday.  I was only over by 50 on Friday but that was even the low total figure so I'm not sweating that too much.

Ok that's about all the update I have in me right now. The good news is that the DVR is getting cleared out (the bad news, is my house is a wreck!) Heading back to my comfy spot on the couch.  Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!
