Pumpkin overkill and a decent run

I think Chris is finally putting his foot down.  We went to the store this weekend and I grabbed several of the fall Glade Plug Ins (Pumpkin Spice and Apple Cinnamon) in addition to a Pumpkin candle.  So I went on a refill expedition yesterday but by 6 pm he was so grossed out that he went behind me and unplugged every single one of them.   Sheesh, some people!  (I may or may not have plugged them all back in this morning after he left for work...)

I actually managed to get up this morning and get a run under my belt before work.  And I was only 1 minute late, so seriously that is a huge accomplishment for me.  Usually on the mornings that I do actually get up and run, I am at around a 10-minute-late-to-work-average.   As far as the run itself.  I did feel a little sluggish but overall the run was decent.  My pace has normally been sub 14 minutes for the first mile and then 14+ thereafter so you can see the sluggishness in my pace.

Excuse the pained expression and baggy eyes.  I blame waking up at 4:45...

Stay tuned, I'm still working on a picture post from my day in NOLA!

Plans for the upcoming week

Ok I feel a bit better after my last post from this morning.  Chris and I went and volleyed for about 45 minutes today.   We both ended up with a pretty good sweat going and it was nice until the rain started.  We then hit the grocery store for a few items and by the time we got home, the rain finished.  It wasn't an outright downpour so that gave us an opportunity to get the grass cut.   I'm very glad we got that out of the way at least.  I'm mostly caught up on laundry too so now I'm just ready to sit back, relax and get ready for Breaking Bad tonight.

I decided that I'm going to write out some goals that I have for this upcoming week or what I'd like to see happen.  I don't mind changing the routine up a bit especially hoping that we get some cooler weather here soon.  We are expecting some rain this week so I'll have to play the outdoors stuff by ear.

Monday - am before work I'd like to run at least 2 miles.  That may not happen though since we are expecting lots of rain tomorrow.  If that doesn't happen, I'm hoping to get my 2 miles done on my elliptical.

Tuesday - after work I may have an option to go play some tennis with some co-workers.  If that doesn't pan out then I will just either go walk at the park or go to the gym.  If my run gets cancelled tomorrow, I may try to run the track inside the gym.

Wednesday - Run -am/ Elliptical/weights pm

Thursday -  Tennis clinic pm

Friday - rest

Saturday - I may try to attend a tennis free play in the morning before going to our friends house to play DnD

Sunday - is the YELP! 5 K.   Really looking forward to this!

One other big thing that I really want/need to work on this week is my water.  I haven't been doing very well with that.   I drink water all the time but I don't drink enough.  So I am really going to work on it this week.  I want to drink at least 100 oz of water each day.  I've reinstalled that "Water Your Body" app so hopefully that will provide enough of a reminder for me to keep up with it.

I finally had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte this season!  It went way too quickly though.  But the "tall" size was already 300 calories worth.  I hate drinking calories as a rule but this one time it was worth it.

And at this exact moment, this is what my cats are doing.

Doyle and Loki are spooning while Oz looks on wistfully...

September Exercise Minutes - 1226/1500

Phoning it in as Jillian says

Good morning!

So far this weekend has been pretty good.

Exercise wise though, even though I've done stuff, I just don't feel like this week has been a "great effort".  I know on Monday I only ran a mile,  Tuesday I walked instead of the gym (3+ miles) and then of course Thursday's 2 hour tennis.  For some reason I'm just thinking that the effort wasn't quite there.  Maybe its because I actually skipped the gym this week?  I'm not sure.  Now that the weather is starting to get a bit cooler, I'd love to be doing more outside exercising.  And I guess it could be because I really didn't get anything significant in both on Wednesday and yesterday while in NOLA.  I mean, on paper, it all looks good:

So I just don't know.  I feel like my effort is waning a bit.  Do you guys ever feel like that?

In spite of that, I'm going to go head out and play a little tennis vs. the machine.  I may even walk/run a bit and then I will treat myself to my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season (and probably last...).

Have a good Sunday everyone!  I'll try to post later on about our New Orleans adventures.  Lots of pics!  If you watch Breaking Bad tonight, we can commiserate together after the final episode!

So very very glad it is Friday!  How about you?

I don't have much to report other than my ankles and feet are not too happy with me today.   I guess 2 hours of significant running around and playing tennis causes for some foot and ankle discomfort.  It's feeling a bit better now that I'm more mobile but when I first got out of bed this morning, I was like.. "uh oh".

Other than the owies from this morning, I really had a great time last night.  One other lady showed up for the backhand clinic so there was 2 of us working with the trainer.  Then after the hour was up, no one else showed up to the New Players clinic so I worked on all the stuff: forehand, backhand, volleys and serves.  About 30 minutes into the New Players clinic, Ronnie (the trainer/coach) got an emergency call from home so he had to leave.  About that time another lady walked up and was looking to attend the last 30 minutes.  Ronnie said that he had to go but he said that we could volley together for a bit, so that is what we did!   She had completed the New Players Clinic program last year and just started league play this fall - (I had just missed the deadline).  She said she had been playing for about a year and that they play 2-3 times per week, including practicing.  So that was pretty fun to get some sorta real world tennis experience in instead of just running drills!  I think that is maybe why ankles are a bit sore this morning too.  I guess I need to work on strengthening those puppies up!

I think the thing that I love the most about tennis is the calorie burn!  I'm not entirely sure how accurate MFP is but judging by my sweat last night, it may be in the vicinity of that number.   Check this out...

And it looks like even though we are still going to New Orleans tomorrow, we may have to postpone our trip to the World War 2 Museum.  I'm bummed about it but since we have a lunch date, I'm not sure how much time we could devote to the museum.  It's ok though.  We will just plan to go back very soon!  And now that the weather is showing some hope of getting cooler, more and more day trips can be planned!  (I'm dying *ha!* to go back one of  these days and do a Haunted walking tour!  Those are so much fun, and the last one we did, we ended up in a bar in the French Quarter.... awesome!)

And finally, I decided to treat myself a little for hitting the 180s.  I ordered this tech shirt and also today's shirt on teefury.  All my nerdy shirts are getting big, so I guess I need to start replacing a few here and there.  (Plus who can resist a Firefly shirt?!)

Weigh In Wednesday

Pretty Strong Medicine

I am under the 190s!!!   Although I am a wee little bit disappointed because yesterday morning the scale read 188.4 (womp womp).  Oh well.  Fluctuations happen, I suppose.

Today we are going out to eat (somewhere.. my mom still has yet to decide) to celebrate my mom's birthday!  So that should be fun.  Hoping to squeeze in a walk at least either before or after but not sure if that will even be in the cards.  If not, I'm not sweating it since I'm planning 2 hours of tennis tomorrow.  If I can, great, if not, no biggie.  Of course, my original plan was to wake up early and run this morning.  Did that happen?  Nope!  I'm not sure why it is so hard for me to wake up and exercise anymore.  My body seems to be just craving sleep lately I guess.   And trust me, I'd MUCH rather get up and get it done with than have to deal with it after work.   Maybe it's just because I've gotten so used to going after work that it's not even an issue anymore?  Who knows.   Does anyone have any tips to help make me motivate myself to get up and "get 'er done"?

So my plan for the rest of the week is this:
Thursday - 2 hours of tennis!  YES!!!
Friday - Elliptical/weights at the gym
Saturday - Hopefully I can squeeze in a very early am run before a day trip to NOLA (I'll be doing a ton of walking too)
Sunday - tennis ball machine/volleying with Chris

Our day trip should be fun to New Orleans!  We are planning on going to the National World War 2 Museum and then just walking around.  Then for lunch we are meeting some relatives that are in town.  It should be a nice day and hopefully the weather will behave!

A walk in the park

I called an audible on today's gym session.  (Mainly because if I go to the gym, then I watch Doctor Who and I'm almost to Tennant's last episode and I don't want to bawl like a baby in front of complete strangers) I thought the weather looked pretty nice so opted for a walk instead.  And in lieu of my boring old street route that I do all the time, I decided to check out the park that Chris and I have been playing Tennis at a bit further.  I knew that they had some walking paths but wasn't quite sure how they all connected but once I got there, it was fairly easy to pick your route and go.

I'll let most of the pics do the talking here....

This is looking out towards the tennis courts:

And they have a doggie park too!

Looking towards the kids/playground area.  It has a water fountain that you can walk/play in!  (It's probably just for kids, but it looked awfully appealing to me too!)

To complete this awesome park they had 3 roundabouts!  My inner British person just loves these!

I just realized that I forgot to take a pic of the baseball/softball diamonds.  :(   Ah well, here's a squirrel.  :)

I knew everything was going too perfect this afternoon with this adventure.  So I freaked out a bit when I came across my other other arch-nemesis.  (Besides Canadian geese and spiders..).  I didn't stick around too much after coming across this guy.  I hauled butt and continued my walk.

2 full laps of the complex on the trails brought me to almost 3 and a half miles.  Not too shabby!  I will definitely be doing this again!  (Hopefully snake free next time!)

Tennis update

I haven't updated in a while about my tennis adventures so I thought I'd make a post about how it has been going.  Last week was rained out for the New Players Clinic on Thursday, but I did make the one the Thursday before that.

In between the clinics, Chris and I have gone each Sunday and volleyed for a bit and actually the last 2 Sundays we have rented a ball machine.  I think that has really helped me focus on proper form with my strokes.  So I'm really excited to go to this weeks lesson, especially since last Thursday's rainout.  The ball machine was actually really intimidating at first.  But thankfully Chris was there to help me make adjustments and such.  The week before, I basically stood stationary and hit either forehand or backhand.  Yesterday, however, I managed to do a good bit of running.  We made the width go further out and also sped the ball pace up a bit so they were coming a bit faster.  That definitely got the heart rate going!

The last clinic that I attended, they were doing a Stroke of the Month club beforehand and one of the ladies stayed behind and attended the New Players Clinic with me.  So I had some company at least.  We finally got to work on serving and it was so much fun.   I really am having a great time with these clinics and I almost have a co-worker talked into attending one too.

In other news, the Canadian Geese have decided to go back north but they left some wonderful presents behind in the parking lot.

Dodging poo should be an Olympic sport

And some new feathery friends have decided to join us.

Oh, I am not sure if I posted this pic or not but I did get some actual Tennis Shoes and I've been breaking them in.  So far so good there.  The only downside is that they are pink.  Ah well, choices were slim and we had to go to like 4 different places just to find a pair that I liked.

So, in finishing up this post, basically I am having a ball playing.  I can't wait to go each week and I look forward to it so much (and you burn a ton of calories, so it's a win-win!)  I'm still weaker with my backhand than my forehand so I think Thursday in addition to the New Player's clinic, I'm going to go an hour earlier and attend the stroke of the month featuring the backhand.  An hour worth of backhand and an hour worth of New Player's Clinic = Tennis Nirvana!

I feel like sometimes my Non-Scale Victories are few and far between but I actually have a couple to share today!

First up, I have to buy new undies!  I know that is like the least exciting NSV in this history of NSV's but hey it's something!  And any chance I can get to buy some Wonder Woman or Supergirl undies is a good day in my book.

Next, I pulled 2 shirts out (One is mine and one is Dev's. - guess which one is which..)  Ok, nevermind, I'll tell you anyway.  I bought the purple and blue stripped shirt back in April and it wasn't quite ready for public viewing *ahem* way too tight.  So I stuck it back in my closet to wear at a later time.  Well that time was last Friday!

And so since I'm trying to find smaller clothes that I can wear, I decided to take a gander through Devyn's room and see what she had.  I buy her stuff all the time and, well, you know how it is with teens.  They never wear what you think they should.  Some of the stuff still had price tags on it!  *insert grumpy mad face*.   So guess who hit the motherlode (ha!  see what I did there?!) and I grabbed a few things to put in my closet for the time being.  I still have several more drawers to go through in her room but for now I will show you this.  This is me in a XL from Hot Topic.  Hot Topic is notorious for tight stuff so I am really thrilled about being able to fit in this!  Plus, I can wear Jack Skellington for Halloween!

Do you have any NSV's to share today?  If so, do the link up with us and share them in my comments too!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Weigh In Wedneday

190.2. So close to the 180s! I swear I think I am losing at the slowest rate ever. For some reason my body is wanting to hold onto the fat. But still, a loss is a loss and trust me, I am happy about it!

I managed to get a 2 mile run in yesterday and I'm very happy about doing that and getting back in the swing of things.  The weather wasn't too bad.  I wasn't as drenched as I normally am and I did start out on my run a bit later in the morning then I would have liked.

Capt. America Tee is starting to look like a dress.  May need to retire it.  First World Diet problems...
And upon closer inspection, notice there is not as much neck sweat going on after the run.  Maybe that is a sign that cooler weather is coming soon?!?   Maybe...    My very own litmus test or groundhog day prediction...

And recovery was a nice frosty treat of a Cinnamon Roll Protein Shake.   Btw, I have posted a note of my favorite protein shake / smoothie recipes in the "Notes" section of my facebook page.  I keep adding more to it as I find them or play around with recipes.  So if you want, go check it out on my facebook page!   I'm thinking of trying to concoct a Peanut Butter/Chocolate one next.

Because Dad's surgery was yesterday, that was the only exercise I managed to squeeze in all day long though.  I usually like to amp it up a bit on Tuesdays since it's the day before W.I.W.  My very own "last chance workout".  But even though that was all I could manage, I'm still happy with the loss.    Dad came through just fine, in case anyone was wondering!  He had a large tear in his rotator cuff (Shoulder) and the doc was able to repair it and seemed to be happy with the surgery.  So now we just have to try to convince Dad to not do too much and just chill out and recover.

And I can't close the post without a silly cat picture.  Here is Doyle posing for you guys.

Running love/hate

This is such a recurring theme with me and I finally really need to address it and try to figure out why I struggle so much with running.

What I like about running:
1. the feeling of accomplishment when I set out to run x number of miles and winning the mental battle and completing my task
2. the dull ache in my legs after
3. unplugging for a bit and the way it allows you to de-stress
4. weight loss seems to be faster when I run regularly

What I hate about running:
1.  Running, in general
2.  Self loathing because of how slow I am.  *(I know as the weight falls that the speed will increase, but geez, I feel like such a loser when I see all these other 7 minute milers or even 12 minute milers out there.  Jealousy is not a pretty color for me...)
3. In the summer, the heat and humidity make it unbearable in South Louisiana.  I will happily add layers and run in 32º temps but when it is 87º at 5:30 in he morning and at 94% humidity or higher---ugh.

I think, and I'm being honest right now, that its the heat more than anything that is making me not want to do it.  I can go to the gym and get on the elliptical and not even bat an eyelash and have an hour fly by.   Tennis, I am LOVING!  Even despite the heat now.  I'm not sure if it is just because I see tangible results as I play or what.  And I know I'm going to have to continue to keep up with my cardio to improve my tennis game as well.  So I am not quitting running by any means.

So, yes, it's been 2 weeks to the day that I have had my last run.  But, I will do it tomorrow as I have no excuse.  I am taking off work tomorrow since my dad is having surgery on his shoulder so I will have some time in the morning that I can commit to a run before we have to head up to the surgical center.

And despite all this I've gone ahead and scheduled my next 5K.   I'm finding more and more that I need to have that next event to look forward to and that usually will help me keep my running schedule in check.  When I don't have anything planned, I feel like I automatically have a built in excuse to brush it off and go do the elliptical instead.

Plus, if I play my cards right and I can get Chris on track to building our fence, maybe this 5K will be a good excuse to adopt a new furbaby.  I've been really wanting to adopt again and missing Buzz a lot isn't helping matters.   Plus, who doesn't love cute little doggies in Halloween costumes!?  :)

Late update

Eeep!  I've been a bad blogger this week.  It has been so crazy busy at work and at home this is really the first time I've had a chance to sit down and write a post since Tuesday!   And since LSU is blowing out Kent State, now is a good of a time as any!  ;)

Wednesday's Weigh In.... well I guess it could have been better but since it's TOM.... still, I guess I'm not surprised that I showed a +.6   Still hoovering around that 190-192 mark.  It will be nice to break through to the 180s.

The rest of the week, for the most part ok.  I think I did a bit too much exercise-wise on Thursday.  I did skip a workout on Wednesday so I tried to make up for it the next day and I ended up being really sore on Friday.  Probably not a good way to balance things out, eh.  Thursday consisted of 35 minutes on the elliptical, weights and then an hour of tennis. Thursday, I'm gonna back that way off I think and just do weights and Tennis maybe.  The elliptical just was a bit too much that day I think.

Friday was, well, lets just say it lived up to the fact that it was a Friday the 13th.  Again, another skipped workout this week.  But... this truly was a crap day.  I know that is no excuse but I deserved every sip of that margarita.  Work was busy busy busy and just weird stuff kept happening.  Then, when I finally left work on Friday, I got rear-ended slightly on the way home.  It was not enough to do any visible damage to my Truckster and ironically enough the bump ended up happening on the exact same spot I had gotten rear-ended on a year ago.  So there really wasn't any "new" damage that was noticeable.  I think the poor guy was quaking in his boots, but I told him since there was no damage, to just move on.  There was not even a knick on his truck either.  But by the time I got back in my Kia, I was shaking.  I composed myself enough and made it home, but then I promptly started freaking out.  So yea, I didn't go the gym on Friday.  I was afraid I would drop a weight on my foot or something judging by the way my day was going.  Chris did have pity on me and did end up taking me out to eat and I did get that margarita.

Today, was busy but productive.  I did only get 35 minutes on the elliptical this morning but also burned a ton of calories walking around doing errands and then mowing the grass today.  Between all that, I had my steps hit by 10am.  Chris and I meal planned, got our groceries done, went to 4 different sports stores and FINALLY found me some new Tennis Shoes that I actually liked.  I'm spoiled by pretty, colorful shoes now, and looking for tennis court shoes, well lets just say it's a very monochrome standard that most places sell.  White shoes everywhere.  I need some color with my shoes, people!  I ended up getting a pair at a local Tennis store  (after going to 2 Academy Sports Stores, and a Dicks Sporting Goods).  And these have pink in them.  I do not like pink.  Nothing against it as a color, but it's just not me.  Sooo, it was either that or drag Chris to yet another store.  And since I wanted to physically try them on, otherwise, I would have just ordered them online.  I'm still not 100% pleased but it is better than nothing I suppose.  The price wasn't too bad either.

Oh yea, we also hit Best Buy and Lowe's and also went and window shopped at the Dog Adoption outside of Petsmart today.  I had to put on my whiney eyes on to get Chris to agree to go do that. :)   I'm ready for a new dog I think but we need to build a fence first.  Maybe soon....

And then on top of all those errands, we also went and mowed the grass and also dog sat for my Aunt for a bit while she is at the game.   To say that we are exhausted today, is an understatement!  I think tomorrows agenda will be a little tennis and a lot of resting!  Plus a little Dexter and Breaking Bad thrown in!  (I'm so sad there are only 2 episodes of each left!!!)

I will hopefully be working on another tennis post tomorrow or Monday at least.  Need to blog about that from Thursday!

I haven't mentioned running lately, and ugh, that's because I haven't ran in about a week and half.  Bad, bad I know.  I'm hoping to get 2 miles or so in Monday or Tuesday for sure and then get back in the swing of things there.  I've slacked off big time there and also with the 30 Day Shred as well.  That was a big ole FAIL.  Not in the sense that I can't do it but I just got bored with it.  I may just use that once in a while when I want a change of pace, but doing it every single day.  That is really tough for me, especially when I'm at the gym or doing some other type of cardio 5 to 6 days a week.

Ok I think I'm going to wrap this up now.  We are about to watch Cumberbatch Star Trek: Into Darkness! :)

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day

I was notified Friday that Marcy from The Mustache Diaries nominated me for a Sunshine Award!  I just love her and her blog!

About the award:
The award is circulated to those bloggers to let them know that their posts brighten your day.
The Rules:
1. Include award logo in a post or on your blog (above).
2. Link to the person who nominated you -  Marcy - The Mustache Diaries
3. Answer 10 questions about yourself.
4. Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award. Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blogs letting them know they’ve been nominated.

Questions from Marcy:
1.  What is your biggest fear?
Snakes and Spiders.  Oh and heights too.  Terrified.  Seriously.  I can't even watch snakes on tv.  I will have nightmares.
2.  What is the one item you couldn't live without on a daily basis?
Coffee.  Yep.  I need my morning cup!
3.  Have you ever been arrested?
No, never.  I lead a very boring life and I hope it to remain that way.  After watching a few episodes of Orange is the New Black, I'm now convinced more than ever that I wouldn't last a minute in jail.  Nope, uh uh, no way.
4.  What is your favorite thing to pass time?
I'd like to say that it is reading but I can't seem to do that as often as I would like.  Really watching tv and/or movies.  I'm a tv/movie junkie.
5.  Do you collect anything?
Ok yes, I have 2 collections that have started over the years.  My first one started since childhood and I've been collecting Pluto figurines, plushies, etc.  Just about anything that has Pluto on it, I want it!
The newest obsession/collection has to be our nerd cabinet at home.  This is stuff that Chris and I have collected over the years.   (Note this is the only pic I could find on Chris's fb page about the nerd cabinet.  This pic was taken in 2009 before we started going to conventions.. So, this cabinet has increased in girth since this was taken).

We also have stuff at our desk at work too.  Here's mine taken exactly 2 minutes ago:
From L to R: Tardis Coffee Cup, 10th Doc, Danerys, Elliott, The Empty Child, Disney Snow Globe, Pluto, dolphin, Pluto again, Tampa Bay Bucs retro helmet and Captain Jack Harkness.

6.  How did you get started in blogging?
I started slowly making some changes on November 7th, 2012.  And I figured that I wanted to keep a record for myself of where I've come from, what my struggles are/were and just about my journey in general.  I thought that in writing it all down, it may just help me be accountable.  And so far it has!
7.  Do you have a lead foot when you drive?
Chris probably thinks so, but no I don't.  I'm actually a very safe driver I think.
8.  What is the one movie you could watch on repeat and recite all the words to?
Ok the first one that I'll admit too is really cheesy, but you have to understand that during the summer of 1986 I must have watched this movie HUNDREDS of times.  I can totally recite any line from "Top Gun"  And the more "me" movies that I can recite are Star Wars and The Shawshank Redemption.
9.  What's the worst present you have ever received?
Bunt cake pan.  I can barely make instant oatmeal without ruining it!  But I am working on the lack-of-cooking skills that I possess and maybe I'll eventually put that Bunt cake pan to good use.
10.  Do you like me?  =)
DUHHHH!  you are like one of my favorite bloggers!  I only recently discovered you but I am so very glad that I did!  :)

Questions for my nominees:
1. What's your favorite movie of all time?
2. What is the 42nd picture on your cell phone of?  I just happened to count and in case you are wondering, mine was a very grumpy pic of Chris and Dev on Christmas morning a few years back.  B.C. (Before Coffee...)

3. Who is your favorite author?
4. What is your best advice for anyone who is trying to lose weight?
5. Favorite movie quote?
6. Who is your celebrity crush?
7. If you were given $10,000 to give to any charity, which one would you give to?
8. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
9. Since Fall is on the way, what was your favorite Halloween costume growing up?
10. What's your favorite inspirational or motivational quote?

A case of the blergs

My weekend was pretty much full of the blergs.  I was lazy, grumpy and irritable.  With a few shining moments here and there though.

Friday afternoon, I met my mom at the gym.  I didn't really feel like doing a whole lot though so I opted to do weights that day.   At this point I had originally planned to get up early Saturday morning and get a run in before mom and I went to go to a wake/funeral.  I knew we would miss going to the gym early the next day, so I just figured I'd do the weights and get the cardio in in the morning.  What I hadn't planned on was not being able to sleep Friday night.

This sort of set the course for the rest of my whole weekend.  I love my husband.  I truly do.  But Oh. Em. Gee.  The snoring is getting out of hand.   I had earplugs in and moved to the living room couch, and still had a hard time sleeping.  I'm not sure if I'm just turning into a super light sleeper now or what but something is gonna have to give here.  When I finally did get to sleep at some point in the wee hours of Saturday morning, I slept right on through my running alarm and didn't wake up until 8am.  (That's unusually late for me).  And my mom was planning on picking me up at my house at 8:30.   So I hurried up and showered and got dressed to go to the funeral.  Afterwards, mom dropped me off and all I wanted to do at that point was laze around.  We did end up making our grocery list and wrote down our meals for the week, then headed to the store around 11.  After the store, Chris remembered that he had been wanting to take me to this new burger joint in town.  So no exercise for me and he wants me to eat a burger too!  Ugh.   Maybe I just wasn't feeling it but it was just ok.  I think the beer that I had may have ruined the burger for me.  The beer was from a local brewery and had such a weird after-taste that it was kind of overpowering.    I'll have to go back again and next time not have a beer just to see if the burger is decent.

After the burger, I really didn't want to do anything but we still needed to go check on my aunt's dog and feed her while Aunt D was at the football game.  So we went and tended to Daisy T. Dog, fed her, gave her appropriate belly rubs and walked her for a bit.  Then we finally headed home.  I got in my jammies and that's where I stayed the rest of the day while I watched my Tigers play.

Sunday started out no better.  I just was not feeling like doing anything.  And (T.O.M alert...) my period is looming on the horizon so I'm sure that didn't help my mood any.    I think the only reason I got any sleep Saturday night was because Chris stayed up playing video games until around 4.  Guess what time I woke up on Sunday?   Yep.  4:30. A.M.  To Snoring.

I finally got up, got dressed and started doing some house cleaning, laundry and all that fun stuff.  Chris shuffled out of bed around 9:30.  I asked him if he felt rested (cause I knew that there is no way that he could be!)  and gently suggested that it may be time to go see a doctor about it.  He agreed. (yay!)

We talked for a bit more and I told him how I was just not feeling like doing anything this weekend and he suggested that we can go hit some tennis balls around.   For him to suggest that, means a lot.  I know that's not his cup of tea, so to speak, but the fact that he was willing is awesome!   So we got ready and got our gear lined up and headed out the door.  We tried a newly remodeled park near our house and it turned out to be a really nice day.  We volleyed a bit and he also threw some to me so that I could work on my forehand and backhand swings.   He told me afterwards that he actually had fun and would be willing to do it again!  Suuuuuure!  Don't have to tell me twice!  ;)    He's also looking into maybe starting to walk with me for a bit in the evenings and also looking into taking some swimming lessons.  So I'm hoping that this means that he is starting to want to do this whole weight loss thing and join the journey with me!   Baby steps, I know... but it is something!

And maybe, just maybe, him losing will help with the snoring!  My sanity may yet depend on it!

And a little disclaimer about Chris. He's perfect for me.  He really is.  He is my very definition of soulmate and I love him dearly.  He supports me in just about everything and I wouldn't change one single thing about him.  He really is my rock.   So when I complain about something like me not sleeping because of his snoring, it really isn't directed towards him.  (Although, yes I do agree that he needs to get it checked out).  So just in case you are reading this, honey, I love you!

Despite the lack of sleep, the going out and playing tennis and just hanging out with him really ended up turning my weekend around and it ended on a much better note!

Tennis fun

Yesterday was a busy but fun day!  After work, mom came over and we went to the gym.  I knew that if the weather was bad, that would I need to get some form of cardio in so I did my usual 45 minutes on the elliptical.  Came home after and shoveled down a Cake Batter protein smoothie since there was no time to eat dinner beforehand.

Since last week's stomach bug or whatever it was, I was so disappointed that I missed out on the Tennis Clinic the Thursday before last.  And last night wasn't looking too promising either at first. We had a pretty bad thunderstorm roll through and I knew that the director of the Tennis Center would cancel the session if it was raining (I had emailed him earlier to ask him just that...).  The skies had cleared just enough around 6:30 so I made the ultimate decision to go ahead and head to the center a bit early.  I wasn't sure how traffic would be.

I'm usually really, really on time for places or really, really last minute.  This time around I was really early.  I ended up being about 40 minutes earlier than the start time of 7:30.  So I doddled around in the truckster and played some Candy Crush to kill some time.  Finally around 7:15, I made my way over to the Pro Shop where I would meet the group for the New Player's Clinic.   As I was walking from my car across the little bridge, I ran across my arch-enemies...

"Honk, we will keel you, Desireé!"

I met up with Ronnie, the YMCA director for Tennis at the pro shop and paid my money.  Turns out I was the only one that showed up, so it ended up being a private lesson!  Score!  He went over the basics with me and for the next hour, we went over form, arm position and ran some forehand drills, backhand drills, volleys and over-hand smashes (those are my favorite.. I kept pretending and visualizing that I was aiming for Canadian Geese...)  *disclaimer - I'm really not a violent person and I truly do love all animals * .... (...with the exception of snakes, spiders, and Canadian Geese).

Apparently, all the time that I've been playing casual tennis, I've been holding the racket incorrectly.  He gave me some homework to do - practice forehand and backhand in a mirror 50 times each.

Anyway, back to the lesson.  We went through each of the above mentioned drills and before I knew it, an hour was up and I was drenched.  My foot/ankle felt good and there were no problems there.  It was so much fun and I had an absolute blast!  I asked Ronnie what's next and he said I can just keep showing up for the clinics.

There won't be another league until the Spring, so until then I plan on working on form and just practicing.   There are also some round-robins/practice sessions I can sign up for that happen on Saturday mornings that I may start checking out soon.  And if I can't find anyone to play with, Chris did say that he would throw some tennis balls for me to hit.  But we will see!  There is also something called "Cardio Tennis" that looks like it may be a fun way to burn some calories too.

Yep, that was quite a workout!

So, as it stands, I might have found my "thing".  I tolerate running.  I like the elliptical.  But I think I LOVE tennis.   And since I can't really do anything like play basketball or softball anymore since they are considered contact sports and that's a big no-no for me according to my doctor, I can easily see this becoming a habit for me.  I enjoyed it so much!

And since this post has been cat-less, here's a pic of Ozzy, just because!  :)

What is your favorite sport?  Do you make the time to play it?

Weigh-In Wednesday

Weigh In Wedneday

190.4 .  All in all, I'm really pleased with today's weigh in.  I really worked hard this week and the effort and the eating paid off.  I feel like I've been floating around the lower 190s for weeks now.  It will be really nice to get into a new decade!

So far, the week has been pretty good and I'm so very glad that it's already Wednesday!

I am up to Day 4 of 30DS with Jillian.  Hate to say it, but I'm really starting to get bored with it already.  I'm still plugging along but man, that same dialogue day in and day out.  It's starting to wear on me and I'm having to really struggle to focus and get it done.  I was a little sore on Monday/Tuesday but I seem to be much better today.

Chris and I made the (Light) Shepard's Pie recipe from last night (with some modifications...)  I'm pleased to say that we finally have a new Chris approved recipe that we can throw into the mix!   Chris and I both are picky eaters so we are usually creatures of habit and we make the same 10 or so things over and over again.  Let's just say that it gets rather boring!

It came out really good!  And since I love carrots and Chris loves peas and never the twain shall meet, I think what we may do next time, is make 2 separate batches.  (Mine with corn, carrots and green beans; and his with corn and peas).

Do you have any favorite healthy go-to meals that are relatively easy to prepare?  How do you appease the pickiest of picky eaters?

Weekend Shenanigans

Happy Tuesday!   How was everyone's Labor Day holiday (for my American friends)?

Friday, I started the weekend off right by going swimming at the Y after work.  I did that for an hour and then was going meet up with mom when she got off to do the elliptical for a bit.  I managed to underestimate just how long it takes to put on a sports bra after swimming.  So about 20 minutes later, of attempting to fix the situation, I finally got it on straight.  (Yes, it was probably as humorous as you would imagine it to be...)  I think next time, I decide to throw swimming into the workout routine, I'll make sure I do it last so I can just through on some clothes over the bathing suit and then head out.    I got home, showered and then Chris and I met my mom and aunt at La Caretta's Mexican Restaurant.  It was a very nice Friday evening.   I think we ended up falling asleep around 8:30.  Getting old sucks!

Saturday morning, I overslept a bit so I didn't quite get my run in but I still managed to get to the gym.  I got another episode of Doctor Who watched on the elliptical and also did strength training.  After the gym, got home and showered and then mom and I met back up later to go see "The Butler". It was pretty good.  I thought it was well acted and enjoyed it.  After the movie, I just went back home and pretty much vegged out for the rest of the day.

Sunday is normally my rest day but it was also the 1st of September.  Chris and I hit the grocery store and meal planned for the week.  Then, I got inspired by reading all the facebook posts about Sweating in September and whatnot, so I dusted off Jillian's 30 Day Shred and gave that a whirl.  That's pretty much the extent of the exercise that I did Sunday.   I'm on Day 3 (as of today) and so far so good.  I was a little sore yesterday but it's better today.  I am finding that it is much, much easier this time around.  I looked back when I did it last time in March and I'm down about 20 pounds since then.  Amazing the difference those 20 pounds make!  I did take measurements and all that jazz, so look for that update in about 27 days from now.  :)   (If I last that long.. A.D.D. is the bane of my existence sometimes....).  I still hate jumping jacks though.  That will never change.  They are officially my nemesis.

Monday was a friggin awesome day all around.  Not sure why, but I was feeling inspired.  I had a ton of things that I wanted to do, exercise-wise and since we had the day off, I thought "why not.."  It will definitely get me a good jump on exercise minutes.  I started out with a 30 minute run.  (Louisiana humidity really sucks, by the way), then I went ahead and knocked out Day 2 of 30DS, then mom met me at the gym so I did weights while she was on the elliptical.  And then we topped it off with 30 minutes swimming laps in the pool!  I was quite worn out afterwards, but it was awesome to do that much.

To celebrate all that, I finally got all the ingredients and tried the Pumpkin Vanilla protein shake.  It was very good.  I think next time I'll omit the Imitation Maple though.

This is what I did:
3/4 cup Almond milk
1/4 cup Canned Pumpkin
1/2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 tbsp Torani Sugar Free Vanilla syrup (the recipe calls for Pumpkin Torani syrup but I couldn't find it anywhere!)
1/2 tsp Imitation Maple (I'd omit this next time)
10 ice cubes

All this was under 200 calories and it was really delicious!  I will definitely be doing this one again and it really puts me in the Fall frame of mind!

We've got a few upcoming events that I'm just so happy about and I am giddy with excitement!  Mom, aunt and I are going to New Orleans towards the end of the month and we're going to check out the Bob Hope exhibit at the National World War 2 Museum and just spend the day around the city.  Should be a lot of fun (and cooler weather too!)  And Chris and I have decided to give the Barenaked Ladies a try again and go see them in concert towards the end of October.  We had plans to drive to Dallas and see them in June but we had a crazy series of catastrophes and had to cancel our plans.

The other good news about my wonderful holiday weekend is that I have officially cleared off my DVR just in time for all my Fall tv shows to come back!  I'm caught up FINALLY on Broadchurch and Luther is back on tonight!  Happy, happy days!!!

And no post would be complete without a crazy cat picture...

He actually does indeed sleep like that.
So all in all, it really had a wonderful weekend.  It was just the right amount of leisure and just the right amount of errands and over-abundance of sweat!  Now if we can always have 3 day weekends...

How was your weekend?  Did you anything fun/insane/awesome/amazing?
