Happy New Year!

Happy New Years Eve everyone! 

I was all gung-ho about going back and rehashing what my goals/wishes were for 2014 until I started re-reading that post

Yea, none of it went down as planned.

I think the only things I've achieved in 2014 was to get better at tennis, blog at least 5x per month and the no more sodas pledge.  Sooo, with that being said, I really only want 2 things to happen next year.

  1. Focus on myself and my health.  (i.e. start dropping weight again).  2014 and part of 2013 was the "year of maintain" and I'm not satisfied where I currently am.  I want to keep going.  I want to lose weight and be in the "normal" BMI category.
  2. Get better at tennis.  I found my passion.  Finally.  I want to be a better player and keep on going.   I don't expect to be playing Wimbledon or the U.S. Open....ever, but I do want to keep improving my game.   And I do have some news concerning this that I will share in a bit.
Sure I could list out 100 other things I'd "like" to do but honestly if I keep this list simple and manageable maybe come 2016 I wouldn't feel like such a big fat failure at the end of the year.  

But I'm really ready to turn this ship around and start seeing progress again.  I guess that's what the New Year is good for, right?

Oh yea, concerning #2 there.  I was 'talked' into being captain of my local Y's 2.5 tennis team.  I initially said no because I had no idea what was involved but I knew that I wanted to join an actual team this year instead of just doing only drills and clinics all the time.  Well after a few days I guess no one else volunteered so Ronnie asked me again and he said that he would "guide" me with whatever we as a team needed.  So here I am.  I have no clue what I'm doing but apparently I'm captain of a tennis team now!  So, Mid-Court Crisis (our team name) was born!

We have 6 ladies and myself.   The league organizer is working on the schedule and we will be starting up sometime next week.  I'm nervous and scared and excited all at the same time!  But this is all 2.5 players so at least everyone will be around the same level.   Not sure if this will work, but if you want to follow our progress, you can try this link.

So tomorrow starts a blank slate again.  Time to get back to what I know works.  Focus, determination, eat less crap, and move your ass.

Christmas Fun

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!!

We had such a great Christmas this year!  We spent a lot of time with family and just had a wonderful time giving gifts and hanging out.

On Christmas eve, we all met at my Aunt and Uncle's house where we played a rousing game of Dirty Santa (I got a piece of pound cake, Devyn ended up with a makeup bag - I think, and Chris ended up with some miniature Santa mugs) and then we exchanged actual gifts.  We usually draw our names from a hat and then exchange with just the person whose name you picked but then all the kids (under 18) you buy all the presents for.  We currently have 4 little ones (aged 1 - 5) in the family so it's so much fun watching them tear into their presents!  After that, Chris and I went home and crashed.

Christmas morning, since we are empty nesters, was lazy but wonderful.  Chris and I exchanged gifts.  OR rather, let me say, I exchanged gifts with Chris.  My sweet hubby is notorious for being a last minute shopper (on Christmas Eve, no less!) and he said he had something for me but I had to wait until he finished opening his.  Uhm, ok....

I didn't want to go overboard on gifts this year, since we just took a pretty big trip and then I have my NYC trip coming up next year.   So I got him a couple of books (How to build awesome Minecraft buildings and Astronaut Chris Hadfield's book, a mini lego Space Shuttle and a huge Lego AT-At and a Millennium Falcon t-shirt.

So after he gets down ripping his presents open, he leads me down the hall into the office closet where he has stashed a new bedroom tv!

AHHH!  Total surprise!  I've been wanting a new tv for our bedroom but I had never verbally mentioned it.   It's nice to be able to lie in bed and actually SEE the tv for a change!  He also got me a Playstation tv hookup, so that either one of us can play or watch tv while the other is playing.  Hopefully they will be adding netflix app to that soon so that we will be able to watch Netflix from the bed instead of using the laptop.  That will be wonderful!

Oh we also did have one more gift for each other.  We bought tickets to go see Penn & Teller in March!   I can't wait!

After opening gifts, we all met up at my mom and Dad's.  Devyn, her boyfriend, my aunt, Chris's mom and brother all went to my parents house for more gift exchanging and then lunch!   (Devyn won the present award this year!)  She - as she usually does - racked up!

Chris made a really good haul at my parents and so did I!  I got a ton of nice new tennis stuff!

Oh!  Chris finished his Millennium Falcon on Christmas Day so now we move onto Mr. AT-AT!

All in all, we really had a wonderful Christmas!  We had lots of laughs and good times!

The State of Things and Stuff

Ok so in one of my last posts, I lamented about the fact that I've gotten complacent and lazy.   Well, see how far that has gotten me?  The excuses started piling up as did the weight.  And oh my god, the weight. 

Let's just go ahead and throw that out there.

Right before I went on vacation, I was at 186.8.

11.6 pound GAIN.  Since November 12th!  What the actual fuck....

I knew it was going to be bad.  I knew it so I've been avoiding it.  I thought that if I could get back to exercising after about a week or two I'd get on the scale and see where I stand.  But then that's not the truth of it, is it?   My intentions starting last week immediately after Christmas were good.  Friday, I watched my food intake, went to the gym and did the elliptical for 45 minutes.  Saturday, I woke up with the crud.  (Isn't that about how it usually happens?)  So the last 2 days were spent in my jammies with me holding the couch down with low-grade fever and all the lovely gooey-ness that comes along with sinuses. 

I am dangerously close to that 200 number again and I will not let that happen.  My size 16s that I've been so comfortable in the last year are snug, too snug.  I'm visibly seeing my body turn squishy and plump again.

This has to stop now.  I know what I have to do.

Eat less crap and move more.  Portion control.  Logging every single thing I put in my mouth.  Moving my ass. 

On a much lighter note, I'm working on a Christmas post so look for that soon.

Merry Christmas!

Here's a couple of quick uploads from my phone as to what we've been up to lately!

My mom, aunt and I visited all the blow up Christmas decorations that almost rivaled Clark Griswold!

Someone got the flu.

I got a new ornament for the tree!  (non-nerdy!)

Lots of baking happened.

Decorating happened.  (And I can't get the video to upload of the house, but trust me, it's decorated as well.)

I got some new sweaters and toys!

And loads of Christmas movies have been watched.

And of course, none of this was accompanied by exercising so I'm really ready to get back into a routine again. But until then, wishing each of you a wonderful and blessed Christmas!  May you all surround yourselves with your loved ones and enjoy the spirit of the season!

Back to the basics


I have gotten complacent and lazy.  I am comfortable where I am.  I love that I've kept off 50-55 pounds but I realize now that I need to get out of that mindset.  I need to start over like when I did when I was first starting out.   So.  I'm going to reset my tracker on My Fitness Pal back to today's weight (if I can figured out how..). 

Truth is I started using the same excuses that I always used to.  I even thought to myself that I would just wait until after Christmas to start again.  I always had the best of intentions with exercise, but I used all the things and errands that I needed to be doing for Christmas as my reasons why I couldn't.  I just didn't try hard enough.  I have not played tennis since the Saturday before (the workshop - and I still need to blog about that too..)  Of course, I truly have a reason why I can't go tomorrow night and Wednesday (holiday baking...) but there is other things I can be doing instead.  I can get up and get it done early in the morning.  I don't have to use my one daily plan of tennis as my "only" plan. 

Food has also been horrible.  Lots of beer and comfort food.  It ends now.  Beer will be limited to only special occasions.  I will get back to how it used to be and I will start losing again.

I'm starting over, of sorts.   Exercise today...check.

Water.... 20 oz in so far.

Food.... prepped for the week and I will log everything in My Fitness Pal and actually remember to hit "submit".


I had a good but busy weekend.  I finished up my Christmas shopping last weekend so this weekend was wrapping.  Finished it all yesterday.  We also had a birthday party for the littlest member of our family.  My sweet little cousin, Hayley turned 1!

Gift ideas for the Tennis player in your life

Here's a few quick gift ideas for the Tennis player in your life!  *ahem - cough, cough*

3D Deco Light Tennis Balls - Cute little decoration lights

Babolat Propulse 4 All Court Shoes -  Because apparently I'm pretty hard on shoes and I'm sure if you play 3-4 times a week you would be too.  Plus, new shoes!  And they are pretty! 

Tennis Vibration Dampeners -  These are great because it lessens the vibration when you smack the ball.  Plus they are cute!  And if you are happy on the court you can use that as intimidation to all your foes.  Distract them with happy and then lower the boom!

Gamma Neon Tac Overgrip -  These are a must.  I have to change my overgrip out at least once every two months or so.  The racquet grip gets dirty over time and can cause slipping which eventually will cause blisters.  Change those grips out often guys!  And pretty shiny loud colors make it better too.  Trust me.

Tennis and the Meaning of Life book -  This just looks like a good read.

Socks - I'm a sucker for cute socks.  These are cute too.

Open: An Autobiography by Andre Agassi - I've always loved Andre Agassi because of his glorious hair back in the 80s.  Now he has none.  Oh well.  I'll still read it.

Weigh In Wednesday

Weigh In Wednesday  

Alrighty.  I knew it was going to be bad.  I had a wonderful November but food and diet were, eh, not so good.

The combo of Vacation, Thanksgiving, Hubby's birthday and our anniversary within 2 weeks of each other was just too much for my waistline.

I'm up 4.2 since the last weigh in before vacation.

So, back to doing what I know works.  Eat less. Move more. Track everything.

In the spirit of moving more and getting back on track (and I've been doing so since Monday) I had a really great night at tennis yesterday.  I love when we get paired up with people my own level.  The matches are so much more exciting, plus I'm actually feeling like I'm contributing when playing instead of flubbing along.   Anyway, I lost the first set 4-6 but won the next two 6-4, 6-3.  We went into deuce so many times last night and it was an exciting match for sure.

And with that super duper long match, I had a really amazing calorie burn too!

In other news, Chris started working on his lego Millennium Falcon that he got as an anniversary/birthday/Christmas present!

And I got our mostly nerdy tree up!

Oh I posted this on IG yesterday so sorry if you guys saw it already but I found a pic of me at Disney from back in May of 2012 and then one from last week.

Hope you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving and had a good weigh in today (if you weighed in!).  I'm still trying to get back into a good post-vacation routine but working on it!

I'm alive!

Phew, between Thanksgiving, vacation, hubby's birthday and our anniversary, November was a crazy month!  Off the rails doesn't even begin to describe it.  I've neglected the blog and my health but now it's time to reel this all in and take control again!

I've got a good plan in place for the week and meals have been prepped.  Exercise will get done too.  I'm planning a 20 minute (or more) walk today and then bowling tonight.  Tomorrow night is Tennis - Round Robin play.  Wednesday hoping for a run/walk before work and then tennis clinic in the evening.  Thursday hoping for some gym time (elliptical and weights).  Friday will be another run/walk.  Saturday should be interesting.  I'm planning on doing a tennis workshop with some of the ladies along my level.  There will be a group of us from Baton Rouge and a group from Lake Charles, LA and it should be a lot of fun!  This is what they are planning for us:

·         9 am - 11 am. –  Game Based Drills / Circuit with Each Professional                       

·         11 am- 12:30pm – Lunch Break

·         12:30 pm – 2:30pm – Fun Mini Tournament 
So it should be a blast and I'm definitely looking forward to it!  I'm ready to be back on a routine!

And I'm hoping to have some recaps of our vacation up in the next few days.  Here's a few pics to share though.  We definitely had the best time.  I highly recommend going to Disney and Kennedy Space Center without kiddos.  Going with kiddos is fun too but just the two of us was wonderful!  We ate (and drank) our way around Florida!

Oh and I met April from Run the Great Wide Somewhere on our last night in the parks!  She is just as sweet as she can be!  

Hope you guys all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We sure did!  And we are finally starting to get some "fall" type colors in our shrubbery around here!  Too bad it won't last long!

I also managed to get our poor little Charlie Brown Christmas tree up last night too!

Well that's what's been going on in my world lately.  Hope to finally get caught up on blogs asap and back into a healthy routine once more!
