Weigh In Wednesday and a Whoosh! (How's that for alliteration!?)

Sorry I'm a bit late getting my Weigh In Wednesday post done!  With Icepocolypse here, Mr. Skinny Geek has been keeping me busy playing the PS4 and watching tv.  Sooo, he finally went back to work today and I'm still off!  Muwhahahaha!   So the game plan is to get my butt to the gym (if it has reopened) and get that over with so that I can get home and try to get caught up on housework.  The house and laundry aren't too bad, but I'm also behind on my blog reading so hopefully one I can get all this done, I will get caught up with you all.

As far as Icepocolypse goes, I've had 3 days off and you will probably never hear me utter these words ever again, but I'm actually looking forward to not being cooped up anymore.  Kinda like the stir crazy feeling we get with hurricanes I guess.  I'm just glad that they are opening the roads back up.  It's not that I'm planning on going anywhere either (other than the gym) but at least I have the option available to me should I want to get out.

I ended up not taking too many pics as it was mostly ice and mostly under-whelming.  We didn't even get enough snow to warrant a snowman (which is what I was totally planning on making, or a snow dalek but you get the point. I just wanted to play in the snow!)

See.. not much to speak of other than the ice being terrible.

Weigh In Wednesday

I've been taking sneak peeks at the scale this last week and was hoping this number would hold true come Weigh In Day.   So I was actually very pleasantly surprised when I hopped on the scale yesterday morning.

My lowest since right before October (and right before Mr. Bill went into the hospital)!  I'm FINALLY back to the point I was 4 months ago!  And that's a total of 3 pounds down since last week.   I just knew after minimal exercise on both Monday and Tuesday that I would possibly be about 187 or so, so I was quite ecstatic to see 186 and a whoosh.

Of course, this also means that I likely won't hit my goal of 184.4 by Wizard World New Orleans Comic Con (Next Friday....squeeeeeeeeeee!) a/k/a 60 pounds lost.  But that's ok.  I'm closer than I was before so I really can't complain at all.

Alrighty, need to get off this and go get the gym out of the way.  Y'all have a great Thursday!  I'll try to do follow up comments and blog reading a bit later.  Until then, I leave you with my Icepocolypse snuggle buddy, Loki.

Orthopedic Doctor Appointment follow-up and Snow/icepocolypse Part 2

Morning everyone!

I had a follow up appointment yesterday.  Not too much to tell other than he wants me to finish Physical Therapy and look into some new shoes.  I can start back slowly with tennis and running but I'm going to wait a bit longer until after I can actually get some new shoes for both.  And of course, that's not gonna happen until after NOLA comic con!   (Priorities!)  ;)

We had another Sneaux Day today.  We are supposed to be getting "significant amount" (according to the weatherman) of snow and ice again today and then its possible that it will re-freeze tomorrow.  That's really, REALLY unusual for us down here.  And as how bad as things got with the ice on Friday, I'm just a little freaked out about this.  I can weather tropical storms and hurricanes like nobody's business, but this has me worried!  The good news, is that Chris and I both have off today.  Devyn likely won't have to work either especially if they shut everything down like they are planning.  We have enough groceries to get by should we get stuck indoors for a few days.  I'm also worried about power outages.  We just aren't equipped for all this stuff.  We prepped as best as we could and used our hurricane prep guidelines (gas cars up, plenty of non-perishables) and also covered our pipes outside, and then covered them again with a towel too.

All you ice and snow pros, any advice for us Southerners?

I did manage a quick walk this am and got it over with.  I didn't even bother with the gym.  I wasn't even sure if they were open or not yet.  I think they've pretty much closed our entire city down.  I got a little bit of sleet in the face and I'm finally thawing out now with a nice cup of coffee.   (And I finally got to wear my monster hat!)

If you follow me on Instagram be prepared to see loads of wintery weather pics for which I apologize in advance for!  This just never happens down here!  And just like typical Louisiana weather, if you don't like what you are getting, just wait a few hours.  We are supposed to be down to 18 tonight but having a high of 70 on Saturday!  Cray!!!

Weekly recap

Morning folks!

I STILL haven't gotten my tree and Christmas stuff down.  Procrastinate much... yes, I do.  That is next on the agenda (I pinky swear!)

But I did feel like I had a very good week and I just hope the scale reflects that on Wednesday.

Food -  I logged everything this week and came under each day.  I'm still not eating all my exercise calories but I did up my limit to around 1450 and that seems to be working pretty well for the time being.  On heavy exercise days, I have eaten into them some, but not too much.  Overall I'd say last week was my best tracking week in a while.  So that's a good thing I suppose!

Meal planning is there.  Cooking ahead is really hard for me to do but we try to make big enough meals for leftovers.  Plus we did buy some sandwich stuff as filler on the days that we don't have lunches.  I did buy this nifty little dry erase board to hang in the kitchen (once hubby does that..).  So there's no doubt as to what we eat on what day.  (Friday's we usually eat out so that's the reason for the big ?)

Exercise -

Monday - 50 minutes elliptical; 60 minutes bowling (not pictured)
Tuesday - 30 minutes elliptical
Wednesday - 65 minutes elliptical; 18 minutes weight training
Thursday - 30 minutes elliptical
Friday - 45 minutes elliptical; 60 minutes Physical Therapy (not pictured)
Saturday - 35 minutes elliptical; 20 minutes weight training
Sunday - 26 minutes walking

The bad - No yoga again.  I've got to find a way to fit that in.
The good - CONSISTENCY! FTW!  This streak is really helping!  No joke!  18.44 miles traveled this week!
The better - I'm finally feeling like I have my groove back, just like Stella.  Exercise doesn't bother me that I have to do it anymore and I'm finally back in that mindset where I was before October.  Now just get me back to running and regular walking for exercise and tennis, then I'll be on top of the world!

I have a follow up with my Orthopedic Doctor tomorrow.  Maybe I'll have some good news there about the Plantar Faciitis.  I'm down to only once a week with Physical Therapy and the P.T. told me the other day that we have a little bit more work to do but I can definitely tell that it is working.  If you have nagging pain, please consider getting some physical therapy, people and do your homework!  It's made all the difference!

As a tiny side note to this, I've decided that I'm going to wait until after Comic Con to get my new running shoes and shoes for tennis.  (If I get green-lit for doing those things..)

I had fun on my snow day, Friday and managed to get the house clean.  Even decided to go shovel a little snow at some point (don't kill me, Northerner friends!)

Oh and to end this post on a sad note....  My fitbit flex finally bit the big one.  It's not holding a charge at all.
R.I.P. little buddy!  You will be missed!

Sneaux Day!

About once every 5 years or so, Louisiana gets a little bit of snow.  You Northerners are probably going to laugh at us but it is always a big deal when it happens.   We can't drive in icy conditions and all our bridges seem to freeze over really quickly (maybe it has something to do with all the marshland we have around here?)  Not sure, but anyway, it usually makes for a big ole icy mess.  And the snow never does stick around much.  BUT, it does usually get us out of work at least!

Here's a couple of pics from earlier this morning.

So I'm hoping to make the most of my Snow Day and FINALLY take my Christmas stuff down and do a pretty major cleaning done around the house.   It's way past time for the Christmas stuff to come down!  As soon as I get done with this post (and procrastinating!); it's time to get to work!

I do have Physical Therapy this afternoon and hopefully the roads will be clear by then.  After P.T. I will either walk or get back on the elliptical for at least my mile or maybe more.  Not sure yet, but I will get at least that done.

Happy Friday everyone!  Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?  It's pretty low key for us around here and I'm thankful for that!

Weigh In Wednesday and my 200th post

Wow!  I started this blog initially just to write down my thoughts.  I never thought anyone would read it, much less follow along with me and my journey.  The accountability of this blog really seems to work well for me and keeps me honest in everything that I do, especially in all the ups and downs of weight loss and trying to live a healthier lifestyle.  This is the longest weight loss streak ever that I've been on and I really think it just comes right back down to this blog and being honest with myself.

So from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU to all my new friends that I have made on this journey.  You guys are the ones that I think of after a long day and I just don't want to do anything but go home and crawl into my jammies.  You are the ones that help keep me on track when I start to stray.  I read every single comment and try to respond to each either by comment or by email (or both!)

Ok enough mushy stuff.  Time for Weigh In!

Weigh In Wednesday

Once again I'm joining the Weigh-In Wednesday linkup with Heather and Ash!

I'm up .4 this week.

I'm a little disappointed.  I was really hoping for another loss especially with starting the Mile Challenge but I am on the tail end of a visit with Aunt Flo, so I suppose I'll blame her for this travesty.

Oh well, onward and downward!

I also made a Cinnamon Roll Protein shake the other day.  Not sure if I've shared this one before, but here it is again, if I have.  I think I also got this one from Katie with Runs for Cookies

Cinnamon Roll Protein Shake

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 serving vanilla protein powder
1 Tbsp. Oreo pudding mix
1 Tbsp.butterscotch pudding mix
1 Tbsp. Torani sugar-free caramel syrup
1 Tbsp. pecans
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. each guar gum and xanthan gum (optional)
1 cup ice cubes (I use 10 cubes)

Soooo, if you watch Sherlock, what did you think of the first ep of series 3?  IT WAS AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently I've been on a Cumberbatch streak.  I went and saw 12 Years A Slave on Monday too.  So Cumberbatch is totally crush of the moment.  Plus it's just fun to say his name.  Benedict Cumberbatch.  How very British!!

Ok last thing, I was looking at Oz yesterday and he was laying upside down.  It got me to thinking.  Have you ever noticed that the bottom of cat feet look like teddy bears?

Weekly recap

Happy Sunday everyone!

I'm FINALLY feeling much better.  I'm probably back up to 95% now which is so much better than where I started last week at.  I stayed home again on Monday but finally it was like a switch went off and by Tuesday and each day after, it's been better each day.

I feel like last week was really good with eating too. I have been tracking every day (even if I go back and forget to close out the day on MFP) and came in at or below my range each day.  I'm trying to eat around 1400 each day just to see how it goes.

Here's how the week looked:

Finally showing a consistent stream of little green men!
Monday - nothing (still sick)
Tuesday - 15 minutes elliptical; 21 minutes strength training
Wednesday - 50 minutes elliptical; 60 minutes physical therapy (not pictured) *officially started Mile Streak
Thursday - 48 minutes walking; 44 minutes walking
Friday - 20 minutes walking
Saturday - 30 minutes elliptical
Sunday - 35 minutes walking

The bad - I didn't do any yoga this week.  And only one day of strength.  I need to work on that a bit more for next week.

The good - 13.9 miles traveled this week.  I know it's not much, but it's more than what I have been doing and I'm proud of it.  Now, next week my goal is to smash that!

The even better - The Streak is working!  It's keeping me honest and accountable I think!

For Meg #megsmiles

This week also had Chris return to tennis lessons after the holiday break.  I think we've decided that we are going to wait until after Comic Con to get my new shoes for both tennis and running.  Oh, my Plantar Faciitis is finally doing much better I think.  I've had a couple of tiny flare ups (the day after a heavy walking day on Thursday) but I really think the physical therapy and the not running/tennis is really helping now.

In other non fitness related news, we had a good time visiting with friends yesterday and getting our gaming on!  We played some DnD (old school, paper and pen!) and then some Munchkin too.  I think we are going to give Settlers of Catan a whirl next time around!

I have no work tomorrow due to Martin Luther King day so I think I'm going to try to hit the gym early and get a full elliptical/weights session in and then I may go watch a couple of movies tomorrow!

OOH OH OH OH OH AND GUESS WHAT COMES BACK ON TONIGHT FOR US IN THE STATES!!?!?!   (sorry for shouting!... but I'm kinda hyper about it..)

Did you guys do anything fun this week?  Run any races or play any games?  Tell me about your weekend!

The Louisiana Marathon from a spectators perspective.

I got up bright and early this morning to go out and watch the runners and walkers in this year's Louisiana Marathon!  This was a first for me since I've never technically spectated before but I knew I wanted to show some support for those running and walking today.

I rolled out of bed and got up and ready around 6am. I should have prepared the poster sooner but I didn't estimate how long it would take me.  I rushed it along and it didn't come out nearly as nice as I was hoping.  Oh well.  I did have help supervising the creative process though.

Not helpful at all, Oz.  Not one bit.

Mom got to my house and we left around 7 or so.  I was hoping to leave by 6:45 but my fault that didn't happen.  I got to campus and noticed the roads weren't blocked off yet, so we ended up just stopping at the Ag Center and watching from there.  A few of the lead runners had already passed at this point, so we hurried up and parked then went to stake out our spot.  We ended up right on Highland Road at the Ag Center (for those locals who know the area).  Anyway, at this point I will let the pics do the talking.

I got a lot of crazy looks, but mostly people chuckled and went on their happy way

I had several people to cheer for this morning but only ended up seeing just 3 people that I knew.  I may have just missed seeing the others or maybe they saw me and not the other way around!  LOL   Anyway, the weather was nice and I imagine it was much nicer for those running than it was for me.  It was around 50º or so by the time my mom and I got out there and currently it's only 55º so it's still quite cool out.

I would totally go spectate again, if given the opportunity or maybe next time actually volunteer.  That would be fun too I think!

3 Weeks to NOLA CC!!!!!!!!!!

Ok Geek post incoming!

3 weeks from today I'll be hopefully getting a glimpse of Doctor Who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   And many others but Matt. Freaking. Smith!

And WASH!!  Ahhhhh Alan Tudyk from Firefly/Serenity!!

And Wesley Crusher!  A/K/A Wil Wheaton!!

And Daryl Dixon!!!!! (Norman Reedus)!

Be still my nerdy little heart!

I am so excited but best of all....

and I may not be where I had hoped to be by now, but I'm much better than were I was a few years ago.

(That may be the last full body shot I've taken since October - trust me not much has changed since the pic on the right).

This year, I promise to not hide behind the camera so much.  I WILL get in more pics and I will have a lot more fun this time around.

Last year's con (technically the year before was the last one we had down here but it was moved up due to Superbowl & Mardi Gras) was the beginning of my journey.    It's still hard to wrap my head around that I was THAT big.  I wish I would have been brave enough to step on the scale to see how high I had actually gotten.  Anyway, but the first and highest I officially weighed in at was 244.4.  So in looking at the timeline of my weigh in's, I was probably down about 12 pounds at this point.

In case you are interested, here's some pics of each con from my Facebook page.  Hopefully the albums should work even if you don't have fb.

NOLA CC 2011
NOLA CC 2012 Pt. 1
NOLA CC 2012 Pt. 2
NOLA CC 2013 (even though it was December 2012)

Weigh In Wednesday

Good morning my friends!

Hope you are all doing well today!  I'm FINALLY on the mend and feeling much, much better.  Still a wee bit congested but not nearly as bad as it was.  I even managed to get to the gym yesterday for 1 mile on the elliptical and then some weights.  I didn't want to overdo it but I just wanted to do SOMETHING!

Weigh In Wednesday

Today is weigh in day for many of us across the blog-osphere.  So once again I'm linking up with Heather and Ash for Weigh In Wednesday linkup.

I was a bit nervous about the scale since I've been sick.  I did have one day (Friday) of eating poorly but the rest of the week I still managed to stay within my calorie range.   I'm happy to report that I'm now almost back to my pre-Thanksgiving weight!

Down 1.8 this week!  Now I'm ready just to get back to regular exercise and get to working on my next mini goal to get to the 60 pound lost mark!

I also treated myself with a Cake Batter Smoothie last night.  So yummy!  This has to be my absolute favorite flavor.  I dedicated a whole post to it earlier last year.

After reading Runs for Cookie's (Katie's) Motivational Monday post the other day, I read about Martha and her Mile Streak.  And then I also read recently about this amazing woman and her 100 day streak.  And I'm thinking that I want to try another one.

I have been hoovering in the lower 190s and upper 180s since AUGUST!  And I know we had a lot of personal stuff going on starting in October with Chris's dad's declining health and eventual passing.  And then the holidays on top of all of that.  So, I'm really wanting to start getting my mojo back and start knocking the rest of this weight off.

I think I'm going to do my version of the Mile Challenge for at least 30 days and see how it goes.

I must dedicate at least 20 minutes to either walking, elliptical, or running.  (Right now, running and exercise walking is still out, but hoping to get released to be able to do those again after my Ortho Follow up appointment on the 27th.)  I do have my fitbit but total mileage on that won't count. I have to dedicate that specific time for doing something and that will be at the very least 1 mile.  Hopefully more, usually but I think I will just start out with this and tweak it.   I googled the hotel we'll be staying at for Comic Con and it looks like the hotel has a gym so I can get a mile in easily before the con.

Has anyone else done something like this?  Anyone else interested in joining me?  I'm thinking I'll start today and see how it goes.

Meg's Miles and a Enterprise Virutal 5K

I came across a couple of things today on Facebook that I thought I'd share with you guys.

Meg Cross Menzies was tragically killed by a drunk driver while out for her morning run on January 13, 2014. As an avid runner, member of the Richmond Road Runners Club, and Boston marathoner, she was a member of the running family nationwide. In her honor, our hope is to raise awareness of drunk driving, texting and driving, and overall safety of runners and cyclists everywhere.

This Saturday, January 18, 2014, no matter what your distance, no matter where you live, run for Meg. Take in the fresh air, be aware of your surroundings, keep your headphones on low, feel the heaviness in your lungs, the soreness in your legs, and be grateful for it--for all of it. The sweat, the pain, the wind, the cold…everything. Be grateful for that moment.

Feel free to post pictures of yourself pre-run or post-run, post your distance, post your thoughts, prayers, condolences with the hashtag #megsmiles. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. Let all runners unite together and remember the loss of a beautiful spirit. It's not a coincidence the hashtag reads either "Meg's Miles" or "Meg Smiles." She will be smiling on all of us forevermore.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And this:
Enterprise 5K and 10K Virtual Run
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Drunk Driving victims are near and dear to my heart.  My grandfather was tragically killed in 1997 by a drunk driver while driving back home to Louisiana after visiting my Uncle and his family in Florida.   So I may not be able to run this, but I will definitely do something for Meg on Saturday.

Please feel free to pass Meg's Miles event along.  Here's the link to it.

And the Enterprise thing.  That's just nice bling. The neat part of this virtual run is that you just have to boldly go run or walk where you have never run or walk before.  (see what I did there?)   :)  (Although I will admit that I'm not a huge Trekkie, that title goes to Mr. SkinnyGeek.  - I will neither confirm nor deny the presence of a Captain Kirk uniform shirt that hangs on HIS side of the closet...).  I'm more of a Star Wars girl, although I do enjoy the new reboot.  And yea. ok I did like ST:TNG too.

Weekend / Weekly recap

Morning everyone!

Well, this isn't going to be much of a recep.  I've been sidelined since Thursday afternoon with the killer cold from Hades that won't go away.  I went to the doctor (didn't capitalize it this time around!) on Friday and got a steroid shot as well as some anti-biotics and cough meds.  Sadly, they have not done a lick to kick this cold to the curb.  I'm calling the doc back again today.  I'm still completely congested in my sinuses and the cough just hurts now.   Ok enough of my whining.

Monday - 60 minutes of Bowling (not pictured)
Tuesday - 45 minutes of Walking; 20 minutes of weight training
Wednesday - 60 minutes of Physical Therapy; 60 minutes of walking
Thursday - Nothing (sick)
Friday - Nothing (sick)
Saturday - Nothing (sick)
Sunday - Nothing (sick)

I really haven't been this sick in a long , long time and I'm quite ready for it to leave me alone now.

The eating hasn't been all that great either.  Mr. Skinny Geek was sweet and brought me Ice Cream on the first day and I ate it all.   The whole pint.  A little regret going on about that but it did feel good on a sore throat.

Since this is a bummer of an update, here's some pics from the last few days.

Hope you guys are having a good week!  I really hope to be on the rebound very soon!
