42 or 2016, a look ahead (aka goals for the next year)

I'm hoping to do a pretty large post on Christmas soon but I woke up feeling a bit of inspiration and I wanted to get all these thoughts down first.

If you've read any Douglas Adams and specifically "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", you already  know that the answer to life, the universe and everything is the number 42.  It also happens to be the age I'm turning next July.

My ultimate big goal for next year would be to drop 42.  That will also put me 10 pounds lower than the weight that previously has eluded me for so long now.  (I could never get below 186).

Currently as of this morning I'm at 218.  If I lose 42, that will make my goal 176 by December 31st, 2016.  Of course, I'd love to lose more and I will make smaller goals to go along with this but for now I want my eyes on one big goal.  #42  I will hashtag the crap out of 42.  And I will not misplace my towel either (get it?)

Speaking of the Hitchhiker's Guide, do you know who voiced Marvin the robot?  Warwick Davis played him but he was voiced by our very own Lovely Ladies mascot, Alan Rickman.  :)

And now I will leave you with a few pictures that I was tagged in over the Christmas holiday which is helping to spur this on.

And the universe is telling me something.  We went all "A Christmas Story" last night and ordered Chinese food.  This was my fortune.

It says, "Dwelling on the negative simply contributes to its power"
2016 is going to be the year.  But I'm not waiting til then to start.  Putting on the gym clothes now and walking out the door.

Weekly Recap

Morning everyone!

Linking up once again with HoHoRuns and MissSippiPiddlin for the Weekly Wrap!

Ahh December.  The month where every single day seems like there is something going on and I know I am always busy!  But I still need to find that balance.  And it is already evident here with my less than stellar exercise for the week.

Sunday - 50 minutes walking
Monday - 36 minutes walking; 60 minutes bowling (not pictured)
Tuesday - zilch
Wednesday - 63 minutes walking
Thursday - 1 hour 48 minutes of tennis practice
Friday -nope
Saturday - nothing

And now that the Thanksgiving leftovers are finally done, food was much better this week.
Food: B- Forgot to track but made good choices
Exercise: C-  Should have made a better effort and a big ole goose egg for going to the gym and doing weights this week.

I had good intentions Saturday of going to the gym before we left to go visit our friends for the day in Lafayette.  But Friday night my mom called and asked if we could make a couple of batches of Mexican Pecan Candy.  So that trumped gym time and at 6am we were making candy.  /sigh

At least it turned out good!
The rest of the weekend was busy too.  We spent the day with friends Saturday so that left Sunday to do all the errands that needed doing like mowing the grass... in December and breaking a sweat while Chris edged and weedeated, groceries, laundry, house cleaning, and finally putting the finishing touches on the Christmas decorations by putting our lawn decorations out.

We played a rousing game of Munchkin Apocolypse Saturday

Santa Yoda and the reindeer
And by Sunday night we were pretty tired.  We played a little PS4 and then watched Star Wars - Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and drank a little wine.

We ended up boarding Ollie for the very first time Saturday night since we knew we were going to be getting back late.  I watched him on the web cams they have installed throughout the day/night and he was having fun so that took a little of the sting out of the fact that we were abandoning him on his birthday!

Yes, that's right my baby turned 1 year old on Saturday!

How is your December going so far?  Finish your Christmas Shopping yet (hoping to finish mine this week!)?  Also, who wore it better?  Ollie or Marty McFly?

2 weeks away from Star Wars VII

This post is gonna be all about me going full geek.

Tropic Thunder - love that movie

Now, ahem, back to the topic at hand.

2 weeks from now I will have already watched Episode 7.  We are seeing it the 17th at an advanced screening at 7pm.  I'm way too old to try to stay up to midnight anymore.  Plus isn't 7pm the new 12:00am?  Surely I read that somewhere!

So far, I have shrived very hard to remain spoiler free even though I want to read and see every thing out there that is Star Wars related!

And then I have built this movie up beyond any that I have ever built up before.  Moreso than Lord of the Rings.  I have so many thoughts running around the noggin.  What if it sucks?  What if it's like Episode 1?  What if I don't like the new characters?  What if they kill of someone beloved?

I have always have had a tomboy streak in me so maybe that is why Star Wars appeals to me so much.  My love affair started at the age of 6 when in 1980 Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was released.  Which honestly that was the perfect one to be initiated with.  After watching V, my dad (or mom or aunt, I don't remember which) rented Episode IV on either VHS or Beta, again, a little fuzzy on the details.  I was 6 after all!  :)   That signed, sealed and delivered my fate.   From then on, I was obsessed.  I had to have all the action figures and the Millennium Falcon a Taun Taun figurine that I could place Luke in and a Yoda doll, and a lunch box, and well everything else.  I asked Santa (and my mom)for everything Star Wars from then on out.  Growing up my love for Star Wars never faltered.  And soon, 2 years later, we had Episode VI complete with Ewoks!

Then we have the long dry spell, which coincided with my middle school/teenage years.  No love to be had for Star Wars during this period (I blame George Lucas).

This brings us to 1999 and Episode 1.

Initially, because it had been so so long since ANYTHING Star Wars related had come out, I was just so excited.  I mean HELLO Ewan McGregor was perfectly cast as a young Obi Wan!  Once I watched it though and reality sunk in.  This was not a very good movie.  What is happening to my epic saga?

THANKFULLY, Eps 2 and 3 got each a bit better, despite Hayden Christiansen's acting chops. (Which really isn't fair because he was really, really good in Life as a House and in Shattered Glass).  Ep 3 was the best out of the 2nd trilogy.

Which brings us to the here and now.

I literally tear up every time I see a trailer.  I am that excited.  I get the same feeling that I had between ages 6-10.  After all, Star Wars is about hope, faith, trust, midichlorians and all that warm fuzzy stuff.  I have (mostly) all good memories associated with Star Wars.  I want to relive these feelings again and again with each new movie.  Until then, I count down the minutes/hours/days in preparation for the epic cinematic event.

Are you going to see the new Star Wars movie? Do you have any memories associated with Star Wars?

Weigh In Wednesday and December Goals

Holy Miserable Weigh In today, Batman.

So I haven't been doing my normal W.I.W. posts.  I did weigh in Thanksgiving morning and was at 215 on the dot.  But today.  Ugh.

My tennis team planned to go out for margaritas and dinner (notice I said, margaritas first..)  Needless to say after 2 fairly large top shelf margaritas, Chris was driving us home.  I did manage to stay away from the chips and salsa but eating that late (it was around 8pm) combined with the alcohol consumption did me in today I think.

Up to 219.6.  Oy.

Yea, no pic because I'm still in shock too.

I really feel like I've been doing better with eating but not really seeing any results.  So this will sort of segway into my goals for the month.

This is the plan.
  1. Go to the gym at least 3x per week for cardio (It's Wednesday and I haven't been yet.. sooo yea.)
  2. Weight training at least 2x per week
  3. Tennis 2x per week (I can do round robins or practice with the team until league starts, or even rent the ball machine if I am by myself)
  4. I must do better with water.  That has really fallen by the wayside here lately.  100oz every single day
  5. During work, get at least 30 minutes a day in of walking.  I need to take advantage of my breaks anyway and may as well get some steps in.
I didn't do squat yesterday, so I suppose this is going to start today.

Oh, one more bit of news.  My super duper awesome tennis team since a) we won this particular league and b) so that we can all remain together has decided to all play up a level and continue on as a core group.  The ratings came out last week and I saw that myself and a couple more players were bumped up to 3.0 but the majority were still 2.5 level.   We still have to make sure that this is in fact, legal to do, which we think it is.  And plus, you get better by playing better opponents so hopefully that will all work out and we can continue on as a team!  Our captain, Jennifer should find out today!

Just had to throw in an Ollie pic since this post was picture-less.

What are your goals for December?

Walking adventures

I am always so envious of Anna from Losing My Puppy's walks because she encounters such interesting things!  I had a couple of opportunities this week to move away from my boring street and catch a glimpse of how people who live in interesting subdivisions live.  LOL!

Seriously, my neighborhood reminds me of in the Matrix when all the Agent Smiths showed up.

Here's a few pics from some of my walks!

Mom and I went for a walk on Thanksgiving morning

I forgot to add a turkey pic in yesterday's post, so here ya go!

Some kid backed in their cute little car into the driveway (or a dad moved it out of the way!)

The fall decorations were gorgeous!

Mom's subdivision

A pretty blue boat!

Barn house

We are finally starting to see a few fall colors... finally!

Sunday, the sunrise was gorgeous!

Some still had their Halloween stuff up!

But right across the street, it was all about Christmas!

And Ollie

Weekly Recap

Good morning everyone!  Hope you all had a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving (for those of us in the U.S.!)  Linking up once more with HoHo Runs and MissSippiPiddlin for the Weekly Wrap!

Overall, I'd say I definitely had a much better week with activity.  And food was pretty much as good as one can expect with a major holiday.  I didn't stuff myself and didn't go back for seconds either so, that is a "W" in my book!  I'd give it a B+ for exercise and a B- for food.

Sunday - 45 minutes gardening (weeding the flowerbed, weedeating the entire front yard because our lawn mower decided to break)
Monday - 70 minutes walking; 1 hour bowling (not pictured)
Tuesday - 1 h 33 minute tennis match (last of the season)
Wednesday - 30 minutes elliptical
Thursday - 1 h 13 minutes walking
Friday - nada (Black Friday shopping and Chris and my anniversary)
Saturday - 38 minutes walking

Tuesday - had to wear all white for tennis.  Chris came as Captain America to cheer me on and make sure he offset my all-white wearing.

Also wanted to give a special shout out with regard to yesterday even though I'll include this next week.  Yesterday I participated along with others in our awesome facebook group, Lovely Ladies Losing It, in a #CarryMaryMarathon.   Mary with Runs To Get Waisted, had signed up for a full marathon yesterday in Seattle but due to being sidelined with injuries had to back down to the half.  A few of us got together yesterday morning from across the country (and France!) and completed the rest of her miles to add up to the full marathon to support her!  BTW, she rocked her 13.1!

In addition to the awesomeness listed above, most of the ladies also participated in a Virtual "Screw the Turkey Trot" on Thursday morning before all the Thanksgiving day craziness!  These ladies are amazing and help keep all of us accountable!

So I just happened to log into my USTA account and lo and behold!  I've been bumped up to level 3.0!  Which means, I'm no longer a tennis beginner!

And speaking of tennis,  our league that just ended last Tuesday, did in fact come in first place!  We are having a dinner to celebrate tomorrow night!  It should be fun!

And last but not least about tennis.  Registration begins on the 5th of December for Spring league so I think I will sign up for 2 this time around.  I can sign up for 18+ and 40+ and each plays on different nights (Tuesday and Thursday) so that will work out perfectly I think!

Finally here's a few pics from the week.

Got the tree up!

Cat shenanigans have already started

Snuggles happened

My wonderful, awesome, amazing hubby turned 44 on Thursday and then on Friday we celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary!  Since we had a busy Thanksgiving, we spent Friday pretty low-key and he grilled us some steaks while we cleaned off the dvr.  We are so romantic like that LOL.  I wouldn't have it any other way!  <3

Did you have a good Thanksgiving week?
