Fit Geek Friday: The Future is NOW!

#FitGeekFriday at GeekFitness

Sorry for such a heavy post just now but I wanted to do a proper Fit Geek Friday post today too.  And what is a blog if you aren't brutally honest with 100 of your closest internet friends, amirite?

Today I'm gonna talk about the future.

According to the 1950s, we should be in flying cars by now.  Or at least have our very own Rosie the Robot.

But since we don't have all that in place yet, we have to rely on ourselves.  We are the rulers of our on future.  It's up to us to map out a plan, commit to making it work, and then witness as it comes to be.

Kinda like losing weight.  And life.  And doing anything really.

I see myself in the future at my goal weight.  I see myself being healthy.  Now time to implement it.

One picture

So I didn't talk much about the article yesterday when I posted about it and there is a reason for that.

Amazing how one picture can send you into a shame spiral.

I look at this picture and see failure.  I don't see strength or determination.  I see flat out shame.  I see the old "me".  I see someone who is not happy with where she is.   I also see the effects of slipping back into bad habits.  I see all the things I'm doing wrong, not counting calories correctly, not measuring food, not enough cardio, not enough strength training.

I play tennis 3-4 times a week but when my eating habits are still shit, it means nothing.

I can tell that my game is not where it was before I packed 16 pounds back on since November.

I had a complete and utter meltdown last night when I got home.  I went to tennis last night feeling a bit fragile and then... no one showed up.  Not one single person.  (We had rescheduled team practice to Thursday from Wednesday because of rain/cold).  Ronnie had the article laid out on the counter so everyone checking in could see it.  I got a few really nice compliments and I really am appreciative so I thanked everyone - I got a few kind words at work too)  Since no one showed, I served a bit and hit against the wall for a good 30 minutes or so and then I had enough.  Driving home, the floodgates opened.  I got home and Chris immediately knew.   He sat down with me and had a heart to heart.  He thinks that maybe I should see a nutritionist.  I explained that they aren't going to tell me anything that I really don't already know, but that we just have to overhaul everything.   So we came to a compromise.  I'm going to give it 2-3 weeks and see if I can get back to portion control, measuring food, eating better, more cardio/strength, then I'm going to look into possibly getting a personal trainer/nutritionist involved.   I'm also going to have to start premaking my dinners too in addition to the lunches that I already make because that's where I fail many times in the evening and resort to the quickest meal possible which usually is a frozen skillet dinner (and probably loaded with sodium).

While I am extremely proud of the article (and I really am!), it literally slapped me back into reality.  I am the biggest person on the courts.  I want to improve and keep challenging myself to be a better player.  I also need to get back into getting into a healthy mindset.  I'm not where I want to be by any means.

I may not be this person anymore:

But I'm not this one either (on the right):

I'm just me, trying to figure this all out:

So this happened...

I was interviewed last week for our local newspaper and the article came out finally!

Weigh In Wednesday

Morning folks!

Let's jump right in shall we?

I didn't officially weigh in last week because I knew going into that day that it was going to be bad.  But I did take a peek at the scale that day and it was up around 203 or 204.  I don't really remember because I wanted to hurry up and get it out of my brain.  BUT, since the 2 weeks time technically things are back on track and even though officially I'm up .2 since then I'm still pleased with it because I feel like I've really gotten my head back on straight.  ONEderland is in my grasp.   Again.  And then, I'm coming after my plateau from hell number - 186.2.  Then next up beyond that is the 60 pound mark - 184.4.    I don't know if this is even technically possible but I'd love to be as close as I can to that number by the time our New York trip gets here in late May.

I didn't get to play for the first matches of our League play last night but I did still get to play Round Robin at least.  I got put in with ladies who are 3.5/4.0 and man was I overwhelmed.   It was nice to see that with some practice and effort I can maybe one day hope to be as good as they are though!  So even though I was way out of my league (ha!) it was still a good night and a decent burn!

The original plan was to watch and cheer on my teammates while they played their matches but about 5 minutes in is when I got called to fill in for the round robin, so I really didn't get much time to watch our girls at all.  I did snap one pic though.  The bear is concealing the identity just in case she doesn't want her pic all over the interwebz.

I have to give my girls some serious props here.  The majority of our players are participating in our very first league play ever.  And of the ones playing last night, 3 I think have never played USTA leagues so I am really proud of us getting out there and playing.  Plus the weather was really cold (for us.. don't laugh Northerners!).  It was around 45º.  They allow us to cancel and reschedule matches below 40º.

So that being said, we won only 1 of the 3.  I think now that we've got our first few matches under our belts and once everyone else gets to play their first matches too; we will all settle in and start kicking butt.

Weekly Update / Weekend Roundup

Morning guys!

Had a pretty decent week last week.  It's not my best but it's definitely getting back on track and I suppose that's what counts.

Food wise, I guess I'd grade it a C+.  A few good days, a few bad days.  Logging was not so hot though.

Exercise,  I'd say was a solid C.  (And I'm not sure why Garmin double dipped my tennis on the 19th because it was only one).  This is what I did -

Sunday - Tennis; 1h 24m - Team Practice
Monday - Bowling; 60m
Tuesday - zip, zero, zilch  (Round robin was cancelled due to Mardi Gras)
Wednesday - Tennis; 1h - Team Practice
Thursday - Tennis; 1h 1m - Drills
Friday - Walking; 15m
Saturday - Walking; 26m

 Goals for the upcoming week:
  • String a couple of good days together
  • Log everything
  • Try something new - actually completed this already (sent email about asking if they had an open spot on any teams for an upcoming tennis tournament).  This is very far out of our comfort zone!
  • 3 times get a workout in before work (Missed Monday - only 4 days left...)
  • Only one day for drinking and not during the week either.  I've recently switched from beer to wine and I'm not a heavy drinker either but lately I've discovered that you get more bang for your calorie buck with wine vs. beer.  And it's not that bad either.  I do miss my beer though.
  • 2x Strength (weights at gym OR kettleball)
We had a pretty good weekend but nothing too exciting.  We did visit with some family friends that were in town from Alabama for a bit on Saturday.   Oh!  I finally watched Kingsman: The Secret Service and I really enjoyed it.  I think I liked it a bit more than Chris did though.  Maybe it's because of Colin Firth.  Hmmm.   Also the Oscars were on and I did pretty well with my picks.

Here's a few pictures from the weekend.

Made this for the Oscars last night

Came out really good but I might have left it in the oven a bit too long.

That didn't quite stop it from being a huge hit though!  Definitely will do this again!

My baby got a wash on Saturday.  Still need to some up with a name for him/her.

A rare opportunity in February to wear a tank top happened yesterday.  I put sunscreen on this time too

Caught Loki mid-lick and thought this was a funny pic.

Fit Geek Friday - Snow Days

#FitGeekFriday at GeekFitness

Today's topic is Snow Days but since we haven't had any of those in a while thought I'd share the status of some things that have been going on lately.   And let me just say that I really hope you guys up north thaw out soon!  This weather has been crazy lately!

This is going to be all over the place.  Bear with me!

Our mock "Snow Day" this week was actually Mardi Gras.  We had Fat Tuesday off but the Y was closed so I didn't get any workout done or any tennis either for that matter.  It actually turned out to be a pretty busy day.  I did watch Birdman so another movie knocked off my Oscar watch list.

I'm going to be making an attempt to get up and get a workout in of 30 minutes before work at least 3 times next week.  I really need to get more activity in besides tennis so hoping this will spur some momentum along too.  Plus I need to get back to the basics with food.  I need to cut my meal portions in half and try to stay away from processed stuff.  That worked before, now I just need to do it again.
Podcasts - How in the world have I gone so long without these in my life!?  Seriously!?  I just binged on Serial and I'm hooked.  I need recommendations.  Also how do you go back and listen to stuff from the beginning or do you just hop on in the middle of these?  I'm using the app Stitcher to do my listening and I've only got 3 that I've had a chance to check out other than Serial.  Half Size Me, Stuff you Missed in History Class and Criminal.  So people, give me your recommendations!

New Strings on Racquet - Since league begins next week, I picked Ronnie's brain to ask him when I should get new strings.  He checked my racquet and they were easily moveable, which means they had a lot of wear and tear on them so he said that now is the time!  So my baby will get new strings and hopefully it will be ready to pick up before clinic on Saturday.

League begins Tuesday and I'm nervous and excited and ecstatic!  I won't actually play that first night but I'll be there to support my teammates and be there in a captain-y capacity, should anyone need anything!   Send positive vibes on Tuesday night for Mid-Court Crisis, ya'll!

Minecrack - So Chris has been playing the heck out of Minecraft lately and I've been helping with his town ("Chrisburgintonville") Mostly I farm while he does productive stuff like feed the livestock and build stuff.  This game is oddly relaxing unless you get caught by a Creeper.  Then it's just frustrating.

Weekend plans - Tonight, nada.  Relaxation is on tap.  Maybe renting a movie and a few glasses of wine.  Saturday - Doubles clinic in the a.m., hoping to knock out groceries  and errands and then finally get to watch Kingsmen.  Sunday is laundry, food prep and then our tennis practice.  And then of course, my version of the Superbowl... The Oscars!   (and TWD sammiched in between).  I'm so so so excited for the Oscars this year.  I've seen more of the Best Picture nominees this year than I have in a long while.  Here's my predictions:

Best Picture – The Imitation Game
Best Actor – Michael Keaton
Supporting Actor – J.K. Simmons
Best Actress – Julianne Moore
Supporting Actress – Patricia Arquette
Animated Film – Big Hero 6
Cinematography – The Grand Budapest Hotel
Costume Design – Maleficent
Directing – Richard Linklater
Documentary Feature – Finding Vivian Maier
Documentary Short – Our Curse
Film Editing – Boyhood
Foreign Language – Leviathan
Makeup/Hairstyling – Guardians of the Galaxy (our little lone comic book movie!)
Music (Score) – Theory of Everything
Music (Song) – I’m Not Going to Miss You / Glen Campbell
Production Design – Imitation Game
Animated Short Film – Feast
Live Action Short Film – The Phone Call
Sound Editing – American Sniper
Sound Mixing – Whiplash
Visual Effects – Interstellar
Adapted Screenplay – The Imitation Game
Original Screenplay – Boyhood

And then here's a few phone picture dumps from the last week.

Shh, don't tell him I took this!
Hubby is trying to grow a beard.  Not sure if I like it or not.  Of course its in the baby beard stage so hard to tell.  This just looks like his normal scruff.

Saw this car at Target.

I sat on the couch yesterday to put on my shoes for work and this happened,

Weekly Update / Weekend Recap

Hey guys!

How was your Valentine's Day weekend?

Ours didn't quite go as planned but was still pretty dang awesome anyway!

First up though, last week.  I had a MUCH better week than the week before both in eating and with  activity level.  Really really hoping to see a loss on Wednesday.

In fact, the only activity that didn't quite go as planned was Saturday but I'll get to that in a minute.  :)

So other than getting more walking in during the day and getting more strength training in throughout the week,  this was overall a really good one.  I'll work on those steps and the weights this week.  Notice only one kettleball workout.  I sorta underestimated how intense that was too, but I am going to try to do this at least 3 times this week.

Weekend stuff - So since it was Valentine's Day weekend and this was supposed to be a restful weekend for Chris (he had to work a ton of O/T last week), we naturally did the exact opposite.  (not quite intentionally).  Friday was relaxing at least - and he fell asleep on the couch at about 8:30, while trying to clean out the dvr.

Saturday we woke up, puttered around the house for a bit.  Then we went to go drop the Family Truckster (Kia) off to get the tires looked at.  After we did that, the plan was to either wait for my front tire to be fixed or have Chris drop me off at tennis clinic.  We were killing some time driving around when the guy from the tire place called back and said that the two back tires were going bad and needed to be replaced.  Oy.  Wasn't planning on that.  We told him initially to just fix the front tire and we'd replace them asap.  So we were still driving around and for the last 3 weeks or so as a joke I had been texting Chris various cars for sale.  We had actually been thinking of downsizing for some time now since I am not hauling the kiddo around anymore and the Kia was just too much car for me.  As almost an afterthought, Chris suggested that we go look at one of the cars I had texted to him.

So yea, this happened..

Needless to say, we won't have to buy new tires for the Kia at least! And I also missed clinic Saturday.  Ah well, we did have practice Sunday.

The whole day was negotiating and dealing with car stuff, insurance and all that jazz.  We actually have less of a note with the Mustang by $20, but the insurance did go up $25.  So we are technically only playing $5.00 more!

After all that, we were famished.  We ended up meeting Devyn and her boyfriend and my mom and aunt for dinner.  We didn't quite manage to fit in Kingsman movie though (maybe next weekend).

Sunday was busy with errands, laundry, cleaning.  The usual stuff.  Then we had practice but this week had a poor turnout compared to the week before.  It's Mardi Gras week here in Louisiana so I'm sure that had something to do with it.  It was myself and two other ladies but we still played out some points for about an hour.  A nice little burn anyway!

OH!  One week and one day until league starts!  AHHH!  I finally think I have a handle on the schedule and will be emailing it out to all my teammates.  I'm nervous about it starting but excited at the same time.  I'm hoping every one will want to continue practicing too once league starts!

So that was pretty much our weekend!  How was yours?  Did you spend your weekend with the ones you love?  Do anything special for Valentine's Day?

Fit Geek Friday - Love is in the air!

Another Friday and linking up with my geeky friends for Fit Geek Friday!

#FitGeekFriday at GeekFitness

And since it's almost Valentine's Day,  I'll spend a little bit of time talking a bit sharing all the things that I do love!  (Last Year's Valentine's post was more geeky and schmalzy and mostly devoted to my hubby.  If you want to check it out click here.  Plus there are loads of really funny Geek Valentine's related cards in that post)

1. Chris a/k/a Mr. Skinny Geek - My love.  I adore this man!  He is my rock.

2. Devyn - I can't believe that I have an almost 21 year old!  And she's turning out to be a pretty awesome adult too!

3. Family & Friends

5. Pets

6. Tennis

7. Blogging community - You guys have been amazing with your support throughout this whole journey and I can honestly say that I appreciate each and every single one of you!  ((HUGS))

8. Geeky stuffs and being a geek - Growing up I never really felt like I fit in anywhere.  I was sorta sporty but never really fit in with them, I also was very shy.  But I finally feel like once I started meeting people who have an interest in just about any fandom that I have finally found people who "get" me.

I could spend all day talking about how much I love all these things but unfortunately not much time to do so today!  But I hope you guys enjoyed the pics at least!

Tomorrow, Mr. Skinny Geek and I are gonna go to lunch and a movie (He's taking me to see Kingsman - Colin Firth </swoon> ) and then we will just hang out the rest of the day together!

Do you have any plans for Valentine's Day?

Weigh In Wednesday

Morning all!

Quickie post here!

After 3 straight weeks of gains, I finally saw a little bitty loss today of 0.8 putting me at 201.2.  I'll take it!   Hopefully this will be an ongoing trend now and I can get back into ONEderland and stay put.

Had a great night at tennis round robin last night!  The 1st and the 3rd sets were very close and exciting.  In the 3rd one we were down 3 to 5 but rallyed back and went into a tie breaker at 6-6.  We ultimately lost the tiebreaker though but it was a really good night.   2 out of 3 ain't bad, as Meatloaf says.

Also since I need more in this little post today I shared a pic of Tom Hiddleston in our totally awesome Facebook Support group this morning.  Here's another just because I love you guys.

and my other favorite "Loki".  They are both equally handsome!

If you weighed in today, how did you do?

Weekly Update / Weekend Recap

Man, it's been a hot minute since I did one of these on the ole blog.  I guess I really need the accountability though!

Last week was utter crap for me.  See below..

T.O.M. reared its ugly head and kicked my butt.  Also laziness.  Food was not so hot either.  I lost my MFP streak because of my own stupidity too.  But I guess this means a clean slate to start from and all is not lost.  I do feel a resurgence of motivation so I need to just hop on board that train and start riding again.

Oh side note here after looking at my garmin stats.  What the heck!  I've noticed after turning 40 that I just do not sleep anymore!  From like 2am til right before the alarm goes off I am wide awake.   If this is a side effect of aging, I do not want!

The weekend was pretty good for me though, despite having such a bad week.  And it really flew by.  Chris had to work all weekend so I was pretty much left to my own devices.  Friday, I binged on Scandal until he came home and then we watched some dvr'ed shows before falling asleep at around 9.  (We are so old..)

Saturday, I woke up with Chris when the alarm went off and did a few things around the house before it was time for tennis clinic.  Clinic went well, we worked a bit on volleys and learned how to poach.  (video in the link).  It was fun to do but hard to determine when to do it and not seem like an aggressive asshole.  But our coach says to do it so it must be ok.  (It is an evil move!)

Had a really good burn too!

After clinic one of my friends needed a 4th for an impromptu doubles match so I said I would!   And another 1K+ burn!  Boom!

After tennis, I went and picked Devyn up and we went out for lunch and then yogurt.  (She had icky sushi while I had a Shrimp Remolaude Salad).

After lunch, she had to go to work so I called mom up and we went to knock out another Oscar nominated movie off the list.  We saw American Sniper.  It was great!  Just not sure if it was Oscar worthy but glad I saw it.  It was about this time that I became aware that I had gotten a sunburn!  In February!  Ouch!

Sunday was errand/meal prep/grocery/cleaning/laundry day.  Then we had team practice at 1.  We had the best turnout yet!  (7 of us showed up - I knew about 2 who were not able to attend and we have 11 on the team total).  We played points out and had enough to rotate around on 2 courts (one for doubles, and the 3 on the other).

Also, my feathery nemesis (nemesi ?) are back and stalking the lake by the courts.

I decided to wear the zombie Bondi Band yesterday in honor of The Walking Dead returning!   (No spoilers, but did you watch?)  Oh. Em. Gee.

I promise I was not trying to strangle the kitty.  He likes to be petted like that oddly enough.  Chris just snapped a pic mid-pet and it looks like I was trying to murder him.  I wasn't.  Even though sometimes its tempting.  :)

How was your weekend?  Do anything fun?  Do you watch The Walking Dead?
